Friday Flashback… Serenbe

My BFF Amanda of Dixie Delights recently spent her 10th Wedding Anniversary with her handsome husband in Serenbe, a sustainable community just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta. Her recent blog posts inspired me to take a look back at my ONE and only visit to Serenbe.

The visit was in August of 2008. J had already moved to New Orleans and started his new job. I was still in Atlanta packing up our belongings for our mid-August move to the Big Easy. For the day trip, I traveled to Serenbe with BFF Melanie (sister of Amanda), author of the blog One Little Bird, and her also handsome husband, Jamey. Like me, those Overstreet sisters sure know how to pick ‘em. Our mates are patient, kind, and allow us the freedom to enjoy our many obsessions- home decor, accessories, and mollusks.

Home to this year’s HGTV Green House, Serenbe, a 1000 acre community, serves as a national model for the future of balanced development in the U.S.- focusing on land preservation, agriculture, energy efficiency, green building, walkability, arts and culture, and community living for multiple generations.

Serenbe includes private homes, townhomes, condos, restaurants and bars, shops, and more.

The day we were there was a Saturday, and there was a Farmer’s Market with a wide array of fruit and veggie selections and local crafts. We perused the selections for a while before a lunch at the Farmhouse Restaurant. The style and ambience were phenomenal.

We then stopped for an afternoon snack at the Blue-Eyed Daisy and spent the afternoon in some of the most original and charming shops I had seen(too bad I do not have pics of the shops back then).

Of course, I did not leave empty handed. I came home with a couple vintage wire physical education baskets that I use as storage containers in my guest bathroom as well as a vintage wooden storage bin that I use on the back patio.

From Amanda’s pictures, it looks like I may have to schedule a trip there soon.

  5. Learned this past weekend that G.I. will be erecting a new water tower in a different location and dismantling the old one. Sob, sob. Our landmark will be gone. I'm having a hard time accepting this.
