Tourists in our own City

One of the joys of living Uptown and so close to St. Charles Avenue is being able to hop easily onto the streetcar system. Armed with the new streetcar iPhone app, J had me running down the street to catch the streetcar which was close to being “on time” as suggested by the new app. The app was pretty accurate. Simply search “New Orleans Streetcar” in the app store on your iPhone or Android.

Riding the streetcar along St. Charles Avenue is an enjoyable, easy, and safe way to get to and from the historic French Quarter. I adore being able to pass by amazing homes, favorite restaurants, and popular bars. The entire trip from our stop at Cadiz Street to the Canal Street drop off takes about 15-20 minutes.

Here are sights along our way:

This past Sunday, J and I headed to the Quarter for an afternoon of lazily walking through shops, bars, and buying art from a favorite artist.

Our favorite artist is Larisa Ivanika Clevenger (more on her later). We purchased a canvas of hers a few months ago and time was right to add more to yet another growing collection.

The summer heat is upon us here in NOLA, so J and I stopped off at Muriel’s off Jackson Square for a couple cocktails.

We then headed to Canal Place and the Riverwalk for more perusing before heading back to St. Charles Avenue to catch the streetcar home.

You have to love a city that makes it so easy to enjoy its plethora of sights and sounds. Upon our ride home, we struck up a conversation with a family (dad, mom, and son) from New York state. This was their first time in New Orleans and were continuing on to Biloxi, Mobile, and Atlanta. We gave them numerous things to see and do during their short jaunt to our fair City. New Orleans always brings out that friendly spirit.

Taking the streetcar is an awesome adventure and makes me feel like a tourist in my own city.

Ride the streetcar, y’all!

  2. When my sister lived on Constantinople years ago, we often took the kids to ride on the street car up and down St. Charles--great memories! The painting of the crawfish and the corn remind me of my brother-in-law Denis. He also is quite an accomplished artist and had a series of crawfish paintings, also. :)

  3. I rode the streetcar down to meet Pepper so we could join out of town friends for dinner in the Quarter just last week! It really is a nice convenience when you already have one car downtown.

  4. What fun to be a tourist in your own city! I love that idea. The only TOURIST thing here means you have to be a football fan. Home of the Green Bay Packers and the National football museum. Care to trade cities for a few days?;>) xo Diana
