Arnold Palmer, the perfect summer sip

Arnold Palmer! The King! I hope you didn’t think I was going to discuss golf. Zzzzzz! (Sorry, Tommy!)

Maybe you have heard of Arnold Palmer. He is one of the greatest golfers of all time. I’ll give him his due, but Mr. Palmer also had a special drink that he consistently ordered while on the golf course. The drink consisting of tea and lemonade became known as the Arnold Palmer.

During the long hot days of summer, the Arnold Palmer drink is a great way to keep it cool and keep it Southern.

The recipe is pretty simple. Simply mix equal parts tea (I use a store bought gallon tea) and lemonade (I use Country Time lemonade powder mixed in a gallon of water). It cannot be simpler than this. Freshly brewed tea and hand squeezed lemonade might be fresher, but my take is just fine.

I love preparing a 2-gallon mixture and using the bee hive beverage dispenser from Pier 1.

To spice up things a bit for a summer cocktail simply add vodka or gin to taste. Cheers!

  2. I knew you weren't drinking a "virgin" Arnold Palmer--HA! I knew that there was a drink named after him--I bet he had a shot of something in that drink, too! ;)

  3. I came to your blog via Dixie Delights. I'm from Atlanta( a suburb of , anyway), am a high school teacher, lover of all things Southern and monogrammed. I spent yesterday shopping at Ballard's, Hill Street, and Boxwoods. Reading your blog ( and I've read it in its entirety over the past week) inspired me to get out to these shops again. Your blog is lovely, well written, and very fun to read. Keep up the good work!

  5. I thought about you when I was at mart in Atlanta this week. Cody Foster & Co. had such incredible Christmas ornaments in their booth. They have a series of marine and mollusk animals, and their oyster with pearl one has your name all over it. Look for it!

  6. Ron, I thought of your blog last night. I was reading Dot Benton Frank's lastest book, Porch Lights. Great summer read that takes place on Sullivan's Island (near Charleston). In one of the chapters, the character makes an Arnold Palmer drink for her ten year old son and adds vodka for the grown-ups. I have never heard of the drink and read about it twice in one day! LOL!! ~ Melissa
