Ma Maison…Up the Stairs

For the past months, you toured the downstairs areas of J & I’s home, so now it’s that time to move upstairs. So, what better way to whet your appetite for more than showing you the staircase and areas surrounding it.

The lower landings, “Attention a la Marche”, warns guests to watch their step as they reach the staircase.

On the lower landing sits a cabinet from Ballard Designs. Topped with concrete finials, vintage books, and an oyster shell votive holder, the vignette sets the stage for things to come. A painting by Savannah artist Vicci Waits of Raffine’ Galerie is hangs on the wall.

Moving up the stairs, decorated with French-style numbers, two Southern bird oils hang elegantly on the wall. The oils are from one of my favorite shops, Chic Chateau.

The main wall of the staircase showcases my collection of New Orleans art- paintings, oils, & watercolors. Local art by artists Matthew Peck, Linda Bogg Lester, Debbie Lampe Herrera, and Peter Briant are featured in coordinating black wooden frames and off white mats.

  3. love how you've told a "story" to entice while leading you upstairs. the more i see of those bird oils the more i like them.

do you know of anton haardt's gallery in new orleans? her bio says she lives in the historic district of N.O. (close to Anne Rice's home)...anyhoo, she grew up here in montgomery and our family was friends with her family...my mama tells a story that when Anton and I were little girls, my mama was at their house for a bridge party and Anton and I came running down the staircase unrolling toilet paper! my claim to fame with Anton!

hope you have a fabulous weekend ron!

  13. Your stairway is gorgeous. The big boxy newel post sets the stage, and the curve of the stairs at the landing is a wonderful touch. Clever to add the numbers. You have a nice art collection with the perfect place to spotlight it.
