Borgne… Coastal Louisiana Cuisine

On Friday, I had enough of the heat (NO ELECTRICITY) and ventured Downtown to J’s office on Poydras in an amazing highrise building. I checked email, facebook, and of course checked out some of my fellow blogger posts.

Check out this view from J’s 24th floor office…AH-MAY-ZING!!!! I wish it were a prettier day.

J & I had lunch together just a stone throw’s away (or maybe a pass by Drew Brees) at one of John Besh’s newer restaurants, Borgne, located in the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel.

I don’t even think I cared how any of the food would taste as I was super-enthralled by the coastal decor and accessories. I was in coastal overload. The decor impressed me right away. Pick up my jaw from the floor. Coastal heaven.

Genius! The main support post are wire caged in oyster shells. Genius! FAVORITE alert…

I love the many “chalkboard art” pieces scattered around the restaurant. From the entrance to the main dining area, the art pieces displayed everything from beer & wine menus to the Saints football schedule.

I love the canvas photographs depicting life on our Southern coast.

Vintage style metal shelving holds silverware, napkins, glasses, wire baskets, cook books, and more.

I love this coastal-worthy vignette.

And take a look at the swanky bar…

Okay. Okay. I know if you are wondering if we ate. LOL. Yes! We did and the food was fantastic.

Look at the cute menu presented on small clipboards.

J & I started the meal off with a dozen oysters on the half shell and duck poppers. Delicious.

For our meal, we each had the shrimp remoulade wedge salad. Love the presentation!

What a nice treat Downtown! I can’t wait to dine at Borgne again soon.

Here’s a snippet from Borgne’s own website:

“Borgne’s casual dining room anchored by large columns of Louisiana oyster shells, features colorful floor to ceiling chalkboard panels and artwork by local artists. The modern, open space creates a comfortable atmosphere for friends and family to enjoy Chef Brian Landry’s food. The menu is a homage to New Orleans classics, a nod to the Isleño influence in New Orleans and a celebration of all that the local waterways have to offer. The seafood featured throughout the menu reflects Chef Landry’s commitment to local sustainable seafood.

The long concrete bar spans the restaurant and is the perfect place to grab a drink with friends, enjoy 50 cent crawfish croquetas during happy hour or watch a game on one of our tvs. The bar menu is a mix of updated New Orleans classics, Canary Island cocktails and small bites.”

Coastal Louisiana Cuisine, y’all!

  4. Ron, Oysters totally gross me out.:):) They smell good if they are cooked..but still I just can't eat them. The restaurant looks so inviting. I bet you were just happy to do anything but sit around waiting for power. Love the view from J's office. Take care, be safe, xo, Susie
