Last week the beach, this week the lake.

Yesterday, I took our 7th graders on our annual yachting field trip on Lake Ponchartrain.

As part of our curriculum, 7th grade Physical Science students study water quality and terms pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and turbidity. Water samples were taken from 8 areas around the Lake. This week we will test the samples as part of our water quality unit.

As a teacher, I am fortunate that a donor to our school owns such a grand yacht and makes room for us each year.

Besides some school work, the students relax, drive the yacht (with help), and swim in the Lake.

All in all, it is always a wonderful day and a delightful, hands-on learning experience for the students. I hope to instill a love for the environment in my students.

  2. Wow! Can I come be in your class? Sounds like you're always getting to do exciting things with your students. Love that yacht! What lucky kids to get to do that.

  4. What a great teacher you are! As a mother of 4 children (ages 22 to 3) I know that it takes a caring, fun and patient teacher to get a child's interest and hold it. Your students are very fortunate to have a teacher like you.

  5. What I would have given for a teacher like you! I think I hated science because I had horrible teachers who were coaches.
