Lorraine Gendron this Holiday

You’ve seen my collection of Lorraine Gendron collectibles that I use for Mardi Gras decorating, so I was so excited when I spotted these wooden cut out ornaments at Judy at the Rink during a recent shopping jaunt.

Judy at the Rink is located on the corner of Pyrtania Street & Washington Avenue.

There were several styles, but I selected three of my faves the iconic streetcar, the tuba player (of the Bras Band collection), and the flambeaux carrier.

The brass band in the 19th century was everywhere. In New Orleans, the brass band was a powerful influence on the new jazz music that developed around 1900. Brass bands gave jazz its instrumentation, its instrumental techniques, its basic repertoire. New Orleans brass bands were ideal for social clubs, because they permitted a bit of strutting through the streets, a bit of dancing, ballyhoo when needed, soft music for picnics, and the uniquely solemn/joyous notes of departure for funerals.

Let the holiday hoarding collecting begin.

  3. I love those! I like it when people add stuff to their home (and Christmas tree) that reflects the area they live in. Those are so unique and will look great on your tree this year!
