My 2014 Christmas Home {Christmas Open House Blog Hop}

Last month’s Thanksgiving Vignettes Blog Hop hosted by Sherry of No Minimalist Here was such a success that I am so stoked she invited me to participate in the Christmas Open House Blog Hop today. Sherry has been a long supporter of the Uptown Acorn, so I am always appreciative of her invites and features.

I love Christmas, and I hope it is evident in the decor both outside and inside my walls.

I love the style of our home. It is pure New Orleans and fits beautifully with the traditional holiday decor that I like to use.

The facade of our Uptown home features wreaths, garlands, and swags decorated with plaid and velvety ribbons. The simplicity of the ribbon pops against the greens. I incorporate real greens with life-like faux greens.

This year, I purchased new tartan plaid ribbon from Boxwoods in Atlanta and an etsy shop (because I needed more). I have always been a fan of plaid and am excited to use it in my holiday displays. I also added 4 new orbs from The Plant Gallery. In two, I added glittery red ornaments. In the other 2, I added a battery-powered candle. The orbs near the door are made to hold candles. The live greens hang gorgeously at this time of year.

I was excited to use my antique dough bowl for Christmas as I filled it with antlers, pomegranates, glittery pine cones, acorns, and preserved boxwood spheres. I also love the vintage bottles on the French Baker’s shelves.

I added several new Suzanne Kasler tartan plaid accessories to the den. 2 new pillows sit on the pair of chairs each monogrammed in J & I’s initials. A throw sits on the back of the cane chair. Even the same MacKenzie plaid ribbon is used for bows on the den mantle. A newish monogrammed pillow from Number Four Eleven in Savannah in green fits perfectly on the sofa. I am still loving the deer pillows. Lisa Papa recently painted the perfect bird pillow which rests in J’s leather recliner.

Check out the table round. Yes. I added another Suzanne Kasler MacKenzie plaid cloth from Ballard Designs to the breakfast table. An oyster shell tree sits atop an English oak compote in the table’s center.

In the kitchen, cotton reigns supreme. I have a cotton wreath, garlands, and cotton boll branches above the cabinets. I added touches of red throughout. Oyster shell trees sit in my cast iron urns. On the island, a vintage bottle drying rack holds my collect of custom oyster coffee mugs as well as some newer finds from Williams-Sonoma and C. Wonder. A tinsel tree in my Vagabond House ice bucket is decorated with small olive ornaments and a martini ornament. It is perfect for some holiday CHEER!

Thanks again to Sherry at No Minimalist Here for organizing such a fabulous blog hop. I love seeing people’s home at Christmas. It is always warm and inviting no matter the style (but I do prefer traditional).

  19. Your home is elegant and so beautifully decorated for the holidays. The exterior greenery looks perfectly suited to the style of your home. I really like the double entry, almost a mirror image style. The repeat of the tartan and plaids is a lovely touch for the beautiful interior too. Thanks for sharing your tour. I'm now following along.

  20. What can I say? Absolutely, totally gorgeous! It's going to take more time for me to go back and really view all the details. I thought last year's decor was stunning ~ and of course, it was! ~ but this year is amazing! I love the plaids, the oyster trees are adorable, the ribbons, the lights, you name it. I don't know how you two manage to get it all done but I feel sure you both really enjoy it. I know your guests do! :) I'd love to have a glass of that cranberry champagne punch and just walk through and admire every room. Do you mind sharing the source for the black & white mug?

    Sorry I've been MIA for so long. So much going on plus my back is really a problem.
