Coffee Tawk Pillow, y’all!

I have shared my admiration for my Southern bird pillows hand painted and sewed by Thibodaux artist Lisa Papa. I was so excited when I received the perfect smaller pillow from cousin Laurie and hubby Chuck on Christmas morning.

The pillow is an original, hand painted coffee mug titled “coffee tawk”. It is a perfect accent to my parlor and den where “coffee tawk” usually takes place.

I have encouraged Lisa to start a facebook page with her pillow designs. You may contact her through her own facebook page if needed.

On Saturday, December 27, J & I attended a beautiful anniversary party of our BFFs Donald and Ellen Herry. They celebrated 25 years of bliss on December 9.

Tis the Season… Merry Christmas to Us {Carol Hallock art}

As we have grown older, J & I have a shared affinity for Southern, original art. For the past occasions, we have added to our growing collection. I definitely have a love for Southern birds and oyster shells, but J has put his foot feet down on this one. “No more birds”, he says. For once, I agree. LOL!

We both have been a fan of Southern artist Carol Hallock for some time and have wanted to add a piece or two to our growing collection. Her works are quite pricey, so we decided that a large piece of her art would serve both of us well as our Christmas gift to ourselves. We were stoked to find a perfect piece of her work in one of our fave Mid-City shoppes, Sofas & Chairs on the corner of Canal Blvd. and Carrollton Avenue. The size, 3’x3’ is perfect behind the sofa in the parlor. My favorite crystal candle-lit sconces flank each side along with my collection of antler trophies.

The piece we chose is of a Southern swamp complete with oaks, cypress trees, and water. The piece is called, Sunny Days.I love her style of loose painting. Close up, her paintings are hard to make out, but stand at a distance and the work comes alive.

From Carol Hallock’s bio:

“Carol Hallock divides her time between her water front home on stilts in Louisiana and her 40 acre country home in southern Mississippi. She often paints the surrounding bayou and marsh from her kayak. “Geraldine” the egret is a favorite subject. Born and raised in Baton Rouge and graduate of Louisiana State University, Carol loves the unique beauty of her homeland. Widely acclaimed for her loose, painterly strokes in oils, Carol’s work can be found in the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion as well as  private and corporate collections across the country. She has produced books of her work as well as “how to” professionally developed videos entitled, “The Art of Loose Painting I, II and III” which are shown on over 134 television channels across the country and in Cape Town, South Africa. Her work has won many awards and also graces the cover of magazines as well as being included in numerous press and magazine articles. Select prints are sold worldwide.”

I am stoked to own a piece of Ms. Hallock’s work. I even am most impressed with her sending J & I a hand written note thanking us for the purchase and describing the piece. She even enclosed an original watercolor as a small thank you and lagniappe.

She says, “Thank you so much for your purchase of Sunny Day at Sofas & Chairs. Water scenes are so peaceful and just a part of us here in Louisiana.” That is so very true. What a great personalized added touch.

Carol Hallock, y’all!
