Colors Heard Round the World

Well? How much time did you waste yesterday deciding if that dress was white & gold or black & blue?

The dress was topic of discussion around our school yesterday, and I see by the news reports many others spent way too much time being quite unproductive yesterday.

I only saw white & gold. You?

In these three pics, I see white & gold in the first two and blue & black in the third.

all three

I thought these two memes were quite funny.

Never Trust an Atom

Call me a science nerd, but I love stuff like this. I was so delighted to receive this custom tee in the mail this week. Who am I kidding? You know I love receiving any package in the mail, but this one is super-special.

tee

Isn’t it perfect for this science educator?

The tee was a gift from Missy Bain of That Southern Chick. Please check out her blog. Missy is very talented and shares her talents with others. Missy is married to Matt who worked with me at the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. Matt is still there.

Thanks Missy (and Matt). We miss our Atlanta friends.

Perfect!

Another Day, Another Birthday!

Today is yet another special day for my special cousin friend, Monique. Our mothers have been friends since 1st grade, so when we were born just a couple weeks apart, we have been best friends since birth. Oh! The stories we can tell.

Swoon {Billy Reid Scarf}

I am so glad it’s cold again, for I get to don a recent purchase.

I am in love with the Magazine shop, Billy Reid. I was so excited to procure the last signature scarf from his shop last week. I love it. The soft fabric is complete with signature foxes in brown surrounded by a black background. I have always been fond of the fox symbol as it is quite stately and classic.

His signature ribbon indicates it is a true Billy Reid product.

Originally $225, the scarf was on (waaaaaay) sale, and I could not resist. What did the fox say? Buy! Buy! Buy!

I will be back at the shop for a more complete post soon.

The sweater is by Billy Reid too!

Have you ever been to one of Billy Reid’s shops? If so, where? I have only been to the New Orleans and Atlanta locations.

Sunday Supper {Crawfish Fettuccini}

Last night, J prepared a true Cajun favorite, Crawfish Fettuccini. I knew I’d make him a Cajun at some point. It was absolutely delicious.

dish2

The recipe below is from Real Cajun Recipes.

Pasta with cheese sauce and crawfish

Ingredients
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 lb crawfish
  • 1/2 small box of Kraft w/peppers cheese
  • 1 pint half and half
  • 1 (8 ounce) package Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • Garlic, chopped, to taste
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 box Fettucini noodles
Directions

Boil and drain noodles. Sauté bell pepper, celery, onion, and garlic in the butter. Add the crawfish. Stir in only 2/3 of the pint of Half 'n Half milk and the Kraft cheese. Cook on low until all cheese is melted.

Butter a 2 1/2 qt. casserole dish and add noodles, top with crawfish mixture. Add to the top the shredded Mozzarella cheese and then pour the remaining half 'n half.

Bake at 350 until the cheese is browned. A meal by itself with salad and bread.

The recipe yields 6 servings. Prep time is 30 minutes. Cook time is 20 minutes.

Blessing John David.

Earlier today, J & I drove to my hometown of Thibodaux to attend the christening of my #2 godson, John David.

Fr. Dean and John

It is always great to visit the church and school that molded me for 7 years many years ago, St. Genevieve School. Walking into the church brought back many great memories of school masses, benedictions, school plays, and awards days. My niece Lucy is in 1st grade there now and shares some of the same songs and memories as I did over 40 years ago. Even Fr. Dean, the priest while I was in lower school, is back in St. Genevieve parish.

John David did great today as he was welcomed into the church. I am so proud to have shared this moment with JD and my family. Blessing to his mom and dad, sister, and godmother Melissa.

Art by Rayne Housey {Where were they hung?}

stair parlor5

I shared with you before Mardi Gras a couple pieces of art by Rayne Housey, a New Orleans artist. Each was placed on the mantle for all guests to see the spirit of the Carnival season. The flambeauxs, the Zulu warrior, and the Rex lieutenants on horseback are all classic, New Orleans Mardi Gras icons.

After Mardi Gras I certainly did not want to box them up because each is characteristic NOLA. I decided to hang the three vertically in the stair parlor beside the staircase. I love the look of the gold gild in the room. The glow goes so well with the installation of seeds I shared with you months ago.

Here in NOLA, Mardi Gras spirit is kept in our homes all year long.
