Guilty Pleasure TV {Fixer Upper}

I remember years ago when all I would watch was HGTV. Fast forward to 2016, and I only watch a couple shows that interest me. I haven't even viewed the Dream Home which has sat on my DVR since January 1.

One show that I never miss on Tuesday evenings is Fixer Upper with Chip & Joanna Gaines. I just adore their farmhouse style, and their witty banter back and forth. You can instantly get a sense that this couple loves each other and loves what they do.

Do you watch?

I adore the "befores" and afters".

I wonder what they do with that reveal large photo of the "before"???

I was excited when J received Austin, TX as one of his markets recently because it is pretty close to Waco where Chip & Joanna reside and have a business, Magnolia Market. I thought I'd be able to travel there  easily, but instead he acquired Knoxville, TN. I will get there some day for sure.

Chip and Joanna Gaines own and operate Magnolia Homes, a remodeling and design business in Waco, Texas, and "Fixer Upper" shows the process by which the couple turn dilapidated but potential-rich houses into showplaces that are helping revitalize whole neighborhoods throughout central Texas. Chip manages the construction and realty side of Magnolia and Joanna is the lead designer. They also act as part-time counselors to clients who can't see a structure's beauty beyond the blemishes. Combined, Chip and Joanna save homes that look hopeless, renovating the imperfect, and revealing them as what they were always intended to be.

If you like old (read: decaying, falling down, long forgotten) homes and the idea of loving one back to life, you need to watch this show.

Fixer Upper: Tuesdays 8:00 P.M. (Central)

I also LOVE the Magnolia blog. If you are not following, you should.

Finally, Fixer Upper is a great show to watch on HGTV. I just hope they are around for a long time.

If you're in the Waco area, please stay at their new Bed & Breakfast and let me know how it was. I just love its design.

  2. Well, Knoxville is where tons of networks, including HGTV, are headquartered. So, don't rule out a Chip and Jo sighting just yet! I went to undergrad at UT and would routinely see all the stars of the then-fledgling network. I once saw a whole table of "stars." This was back when Kitty Bartholomew and Nathalie Dupree were big time, and I was probably the only dorky college student who would have even noticed they were at the next table. When I was in law school, I started watching a new show called Trading Spaces because the first episodes were all filmed around Knoxville. That was 16 years ago also when the rest of America got glue to HGTV also. Knoxville will be fun for you to check out with surprisingly number of great little restaurants and shops!

  3. I love their show too! I also love how they do a renovation without all the drama some shows have when they realize they can't do everything in the budget due to some unforeseen problem. I used to watch HGTV all the time when they had more decorating shows on like Designer's Challenge. Oh how I miss that show but I guess Chris Harrison makes more money hosting The Bachelor than he did on that one! It was such a great show though. I loved being able to see the 3 options! I watched to Dream Home but would have preferred Linda Woodrum to decorate it...But yes, Fixer Upper - love that show!

  6. I never miss a show! Love it. When we renovated our home I got a chance to feel what it's like to go through a big reno so I get a big thrill out of seeing what they do. Often times I think no way no way it's horrible but it always comes out great! I know what you mean about how few shows that interest me on HGTV anymore. I haven't entered for the new giveaway home either- didn't much care for it.

  9. Love them and the show! They have done so much for the town of Waco. I had the opportunity to visit her original shop while our daughter was in school there, and see many of the renovated houses in person (well, from the street anyhow). The Silo project has totally transformed the downtown area. Cannot wait to get back to visit. And, if you happen to be in Knoxville let me know. #2 is now in grad school there and that girl can find her way around some awesome restaurants!!

  10. I have been watching their show even before the blogs were writing about it. I discovered them during a marathon running of their show a few summers ago. I knew as soon as I saw it that it was different from all the rest. I do read their blog and follow them on instagram as well. They said that they give the clients the paper "before" sign as a parting gift and reminder of what their house used to look like.

  11. I like the show, too, even if a lot of the interiors all look a bit formulaic. (I'll probably get tarred and feathered for saying that!) I used to live in Dallas, and I have been to Waco upon occasion. Of course, that was before Fixer Upper started.

I put a link to some of your Mardi Gras decorating today on my blog -- come check it out!

  12. I had a Fixer Upper season premier party at my house! We all brought JoJo sussie gifts to exchange before the show started. Little house decorating items. It was so fun! They are the cutest and my friends and I will be stopping in Waco at the Silo's on our way to Round Top Antique week in April. EEEEEE!!!!!!
