What Makes Me Happy {A Stroll Thru Life}

Welcome Back to another week of my series What Makes Me Happy. One of the very first blogs I followed when I started this blog journey is A Stroll Thru Life. Marty is one of the nicest ladies I have gotten to know. She loves to decorate and is fortunate to have the opportunity to design her newest home. I hope you will join me in sharing What Makes {Marty} Happy. Take it away, Marty!

One of my favorite blogs to follow is Ron at Uptown Acorn, so when he decided to start a series of Things That Make Me Happy and invited me to join in, I was thrilled.  I have so much that "Makes Me Happy", so how fun to share one special thing with you.

First of all, family and friends make me the happiest, but since we have a new house and I have been having so much fun remodeling and creating new spaces I thought maybe I would share one of my favorite new spaces in this home --My Office.

I have never had a dedicated "Office" space before.  In our previous home I used the buffet in the breakfast area as my desk and office.  It worked out well and allowed me to be in the center of the action.  This new house had a super bonus space that I adopted as my little nook.  The Loft.

I have sort of adopted this as my space.  It is the perfect place to get away and blog or to sit and watch a favorite TV program.  Instead of a "man cave"  I have a "girl cave".

I didn't have a desk so I thought I would use this gateleg table as a large workspace while I looked for a desk.  However, I am loving it so much that I don't think I want a desk.  I love how it looks and the space is perfect.

Since this room sort of got all the leftover pieces of furniture that didn't fit anywhere else, I borrowed this small bookcase from my hubby's office and it holds all the things I need to have at hand when I am working at my desk.  (I do have other office storage elsewhere).

The wicker chair was in the family room of our previous home and the settee was in our bedroom.  Both are perfect to create a nice seating arrangement in this space.

In the mirror you can get a glimpse of the entertainment center across from the settee.

I have extra office storage with these drawers and door storage, plus a TV behind the center doors.   I love the loft and it is definitely one of my favorite places.

Definitely one of "My Happy Places".

Thanks Ron for inviting me to be a part of this fun series.

  3. This is such a pretty space Marty! I love the gate leg table as a desk and that round mirror over the sofa! I work from my dining room table and would absolutely love to have a little Girl Cave like this for myself!! Enjoy it and your new home.

  4. That is a GREAT place to have for an office, Marty...you must feel like you are in a choir loft--able to see what is going on and yet can sing your own song up there. LOVE it. I have that identical gate leg table. It belonged to John's grandmother and was her first 'kitchen' table. I leave the leaves down and use it as a small foyer table.
    Have a great day. Thanks, Ron! xo Diana

  5. Thanks, Ron, for including Marty in your series. Marty, I was waiting to see the new space created just for you. Love the gate leg table as desk...some desks have no personality and the table with the turned legs is functional as well as beautiful. I bet the entertainment center was a bear to carry up the stairs. To have all that storage...bliss... I can why this is your happy space!

  9. Loving your sweet girl cave, Marty! I tend to set up my laptop on the kitchen counter because my 'office' is a tiny nook downstairs, in a dark corner - no thank you!! So I keep all my files and office supplies down there, but I work upstairs in the main part of the house. It is what it is!
