It's Beginning to Look Like... {St. Patrick's Day}

 As much as I adore the sparkle and spirit of Carnival, Mardi Gras season has officially come to a close at our home. Last week, I carefully packed away every last bit of purple, green, and gold—each ornament and bloom holding sweet memories of parades, gatherings, and festive evenings. There’s always a touch of nostalgia in the transition, but in true New Orleans fashion, we simply move on to the next celebration.

This weekend, I welcomed a fresh palette to our front porch as we prepare for St. Patrick’s Day. The rich greens and touches of white feel crisp and cheerful—like a breath of spring after the revelry of Mardi Gras. Our front door and window are once again dressed for the season, this time showcasing the colors of the Irish.

One of my favorite traditions is building my ever-growing collection of custom florals created by talented local artists right here in New Orleans. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted and full of personality—far more meaningful than anything mass-produced. Over the years, I’ve found so many treasures at beloved small businesses like Alice & Amelia and Home Malone, both located on charming Magazine Street. Supporting local makers and shop owners is something I truly value. Their creativity brings our home to life season after season.

On the front door, I layered in a preserved boxwood wreath accented with a ribbon sash inspired by St. Patrick’s Day hues from Red Onion. The rich greens paired beautifully with a striking gold clover emblem sourced from Blanc Box, adding just the right festive touch. The combination feels classic, fresh, and subtly celebratory—perfect for welcoming guests during this next season of gathering.

There’s something so special about marking each holiday with intentional decor—pieces that tell a story and reflect the heart of our region. As we trade beads for shamrocks, I’m grateful for another opportunity to celebrate, decorate, and continue supporting the small businesses that make our Louisiana communities so wonderfully unique.

 It's a gloomy, rainy day in New Orleans, but the city is filled with green. Here at the Acorn Cottage, there are touches of festive green on the outside as well as on the bar inside. Take a peek....

It's March! Go Green.

 It's the start of the month of March, so it is time to go green at the Acorn Cottage. I got my festive St. Patrick's Day decor put up over the weekend and am ready to usher in March. It has felt like spring here for a solid week, and I am loving it! The snapdragons are also loving this time of year.

The leprechaun doorhanger from Tom Tom and Company is a favorite of mine and is the perfect welcome to guests in the month of March.

Corrugated shamrocks are also spread throughout the front yard.

Go Green! {St. Patrick's Day Facade}

 Wow! I cannot believe it is already March. The Mardi Gras decorations were put away, the house was allowed time to "breathe," and the St. Patrick's decor made its way out on March 1. I love the green lights in the trees as well as the Lucky Little Leprechaun {TomTom and Company} door hanger. Clover decor also fills spots in the landscape.

Green is my favorite color, so I do love St. Patrick's decor.

St. Patrick's Day: Leprechaun Door Hanger

 The week of March 17th calls for a new door hanger. I was thrilled to find this silly lil leprechaun with his blue and white ginger jar filled with gold coins from Tom Tom and Company. He makes for a happy entrance this week.

St. Patrick's: Acorn Cottage Facade

 It's looking very GREEN around the Acorn Cottage. Shamrocks were added to the entrance and throughout the yard. The shamrocks are adhered with velcro Command Strips, easy to install and easy to remove.

Think GREEN, y'all!

 I hope your St. Patrick's Day was a good one. I enjoyed the day after my second vaccine yesterday. I am all vaccinated and ready for the pandemic to be in our rear view mirror.

Acorn Cottage {St. Patrick's Facade}

 It's a picture-perfect morning here in New Orleans, so I snapped some photos of the front facade and yard as I left for work. I just adore the morning light on the Cottage.

With the beginning of March, up went the green and St. Patrick's Day decorations. There are not many, but I believe they make a classic statement. The yard man came yesterday to trim the boxwoods and wax myrtles, so the yard is looking quite tidy.

I am ready for spring. How about you?

Even though the New Orleans mayor cancelled the St. Patrick's Day festivities this weekend, the Acorn Cottage is ready for March 17th. I'm certain New Orleanians will be partying in the Irish Channel and around the French Quarter this weekend.
