Remembering Upperline: She's gone, but will never be forgotten

 Closed since March 2020, Upperline Restaurant has shuttered forever owned and managed by the hostest with the mostest, JoAnn Clevenger.

You can read more about the closing of Upperline in Nola.com's recent feature HERE!

I also love these photos taken at Upperline through the years: click HERE!

Upperline was J and I's go-to since moving back to NOLA in the Fall of 2008. Located just a couple blocks from our home, Upperline has been a staple in New Orleans dining for a lot longer. J and I shared many meals at our favorite table downstairs. We also shared many meals with family and friends as we introduced many to the warmth of JoAnn and the deliciousness that is the creole-inspired food. I count myself very fortunate to have dined well and felt welcomed each and every time.

I will miss my favorites: fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade,  oysters St. Claude (the SAUCE!!!), and the Cane River Country Shrimp Saute' (Sautéed Shrimp, Mushrooms, Bacon & Garlic over Creamy Grits). My mouth waters just thinking about each one. Each will definitely be missed.

I will miss JoAnn. There is no host more friendly and attentive.

I will miss our favorite server Mark. Mark was often "dry witted" but attentive and to the point.

And I will miss our favorite martini shaker, Gerard. He always had our martinis ready for our visit.

Each of these photos below bring back such wonderful memories of a favorite New Orleans resturant.

#thereal50 {Celebrating Tim... Upperline}

Surprise!

Three Hoosiers in the parlor

Tim, J's best friend from college, and his partner Rick boarded a plane in LAX and headed to NOLA. Rick had been planning the surprise for a while coordinating with J for restaurant reservations and more. Tim's sister and husband arrived from Indiana and best friend Camie (another Hoosier) arrived from Atlanta. Tim was genuinely surprised.

Stop 1: Upperline

Guess who picked out this choice?

Cheers to 5-0, Tim! More to come!

The Weekend That Was {March 11-12}

This has been a busy week and weekend. On Saturday I traveled to my alma mater, Nicholls State University, with my Science Olympiad team to participate in Regional competition. It was a long day of science-related events, 23 to be exact. I am happy to report that my team, St. Paul's Episcopal placed 1st again for the third year in a row. Our team will now head to State competition at Southeastern University in April.

I returned to New Orleans last night to continue celebrating my birthday month. We dined at my favorite New Orleans restaurant, Upperline. Cheers! I needed the cocktails after the stressful week I had.

Uptown Acorn Eats {Upperline}

     J & I celebrated Valentine's Day over the weekend with dinner at our most favorite New Orleans restaurant, Upperline.

     Upperline is the restaurant where J & I love to celebrate special times, and the place we bring many out of town guests since its proximity is so close to home.
     J & I are always greeted by the ever cordial JoAnn Clevenger, the long time owner of this fine Uptown establishment.

     Surprise! J & I started with our usual martinis... Cheers!

     The wait staff is always on their game--- never pushy, attentive, and professional. JoAnn manages every detail.
     First course-
     J & I shared the Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp Remoulade. Did you know that this combination of these two classics started at Upperline in 1992? Interesting?

     We also shared the Spicy Oysters St. Claude. Both apps are delicious!

     Second Course-
     I had my usual (and probably my favorite meal here in NOLA) Cane Rive Shrimp Saute', sauteed shrimp, mushrooms, bacon & garlic over crispy grits. Yum! Yum! Yum!

     J dined on Drum fish topped with spicy, hot shrimp. He loved it!

     Third course-
     We both had the Louisiana Pecan topped topped with buttery vanilla ice cream. Another yum!

     Perhaps Frommer's Guide to New Orleans says it best, "Get out of the Quarter. Get out of the Quarter. Get out of the Quarter. Hop on a streetcar, admire the gorgeous homes...sample what's happening in New Orleans cooking. We recommend the more-or-less contemporary Creole food at Upperline. Today, you must begin to see what else New Orleans has to offer." I second that! I could not agree more.
     Upperline is located at 1413 Upperline Street, Uptown. It is open Wednesday-Sunday for dinner only. Reservations are highly recommended.

Happy Dining, y'all!
