Anemones, Hydrangeas, and Peonies

I definitely prefer fresh flowers, but we all know they do not last for a very long time. I really like when I find realistic-looking silks. Though quality silks are more expensive, they do last for a very long time.

I scored some pretty blooms for the Spring arrangement on the central clock table in the stair parlor. The purple anemones and pink peonies are from Hazelnut on Magazine Street, and the purple hydrangeas are from Aubergine in Fairhope, AL. Though I am not a huge lover of pastels, I think these shades of spring are perfect.

The ceramic vase is also from Hazelnut {Kiss the Frog}.

Does it feel like spring where you are?

Pretty Peonies

There is nothing else better in a house than fresh flowers. I called my friends at Mitch's Flowers on Magazine Street for a few stems of these pink beauties.

I added them to the Abigail's fleur de lis wine holder (vase) and placed on the breakfast table.

The fattest and most scrumptious of all flowers, a rare fusion of fluff and majesty, the peony is now coming into bloom.
–Henry Mitchell, American writer (1923-93)

Peonies are outrageously beautiful in bloom, with lush foliage all summer long. These perennials may live longer than you do—some have been known to thrive for 100 years. The plants require little maintenance as long as they are planted properly and establish themselves; they do not respond well to transplanting.

The peonies are picture perfect.

Pickin' Peonies

Who else likes peonies?

These pinkish peonies look great on the entry chest. But I have a secret. These blooms are faux. I am not a big fan of faux blooms, but the quality of faux blooms is getting better and better.

I picked a couple bunches of peonies from Hazelnut on Magazine Street last month, and I added them to the Vagabond House pewter wine bucket.

These blooms certainly say spring to me.
