December at Acorn Cottage: A Moody Christmas in the Den & Dining Rooms

 I don’t believe I’ve shared the den and dining rooms since they were painted back in September, so Christmas felt like the perfect time for their debut. Both spaces were color-drenched in Rain by Sherwin-Williams, a rich, moody hue that completely transformed these rooms. The depth of color adds such an intimate, cozy feeling—especially in the den—making it the ideal spot for movie watching on chilly December evenings.

For Christmas, the décor in these rooms leans very traditional, which feels especially beautiful against the dramatic paint color. At the window, a custom shiny brite ornament wreath welcomes you. I enlisted a local artist, the talented @vintageshinybrites, to create this piece. She also crafted the custom ornament tree in the sunroom, and I love how her work ties the holiday story of the house together with sparkle and nostalgia.

The dining area is dressed for the season in one of my longtime favorites—plaid. The table is covered in classic plaid linens, setting the tone for festive gatherings and holiday meals. Overhead, the chandelier is strung with red shiny ornament garlands, casting the most beautiful glow in the evenings. There’s just something magical about the way the ornaments catch the light after the sun goes down.

Throughout both spaces, magnolia garlands and red velvet ribbons add layers of texture and timeless Southern charm. And of course, no holiday setting is complete without scent—Nest Holiday candles fill the air with that unmistakable Christmas fragrance, wrapping the rooms in warmth and cheer.

These rooms may be moody in color, but at Christmastime they are filled with light, tradition, and the simple joy of the season.

Tis the Season {Acorn Cottage: Dining Room}

 The dining room is a main hub in our home during the holiday season. I'm sharing J and I's dining room today.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Christmas 2022 {Acorn Cottage: Dining Room}

 The dining room has been decorated with care in hopes that St. Nicholas will soon be here. The dining space is again decorated traditionally in the colors red, green, and gold. I adore the red ball garlands used atop the chandelier and metal wave mirrors. Two velvet dressed Santas (purchased from Hazelnut) sit on the shelves below each mirror.

I also love the use of the tinsel tree which holds all of my bar-themed ornaments. The tree is a Dunn & Sonnier find. Shop local, friends!!!

Halloween 2022 {Acorn Cottage: Dining Room}

 The seasonal decorations in the dining room are less Halloween and more Fall oriented. White ceramic and gold gided pumpkins are clustered on the buffet and the table. On the buffet, white ceramic pumpkins, as well as, gold gilded ears of corn and antlers set the autumnal tone. Silvery glittered gourds also spill out of a large clam shell on a side table.

Acorn Cottage {Dining Room}

 The place where we eat our meals and entertain, the dining room in the rear of the house features lots of blues and whites. The Carol Hallock painting sets the stage with its very moody, swampy appearance. The room features lots of brass accented pieces including the iron chandelier purchased from Niche Modern Home. I liked this photo, so I thought it would be nice to share from my perch on the sofa.

Springtime {Easter in the Dining Room}

 Touches of Easter in the dining room add to the beauty of the season. Bundles of white tulips and gilded eggs look perfect with the classic blue and white urns. A pair of bunnies set the seasonal tone on the buffet.

Are you ready for the Easter bunny?

Mardi Gras: Acorn Cottage {Dining Room}

 Since J and I entertain so much in the back of the house, the dining room is an area where I really like to decorate. It is where most of the buffet of foods are kept during the Mardi Gras season.

The table is set with placemats in original Carnival art exclusive to Hazelnut. A blue and white jar is filled with plumes in purple, green, and gold.

I also love using the Lorraine Gendron art pieces at this time of year. Most were purchased from Gentry, a Magazine Street ain't dere no more shop.

The lieutenant pillow was painted by Thibodaux artist, Lisa Papa.
