What a Week!

Or should I say two weeks? For the last two weeks, J and I have traveled the West coast from Seattle to LaJolla to Corando Island to San Diego. The cooler temperatures and lower humidities made for a perfect trip.

Eating San Diego {Herb & Wood}

I have heard so much about this San Diego gem from J, my sister Co, and BIL Chris all who have dined at Herb & Wood in San Diego. I can honestly attest that this restaurant is a feast for the senses and the taste buds.

I was also so happy to meet Lydia and Doug McLaughlin of Real Housewives of Orange County fame. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Housewives devotee and a BRAVO obsessed-watcher.

I must agree with the review from the San Diego Union-Tribune:

As the debut design credit for Christopher Puffer, Herb & Wood is truly the first of its kind. Brian Malarkey’s restaurant partner and general manager brought Southern charm and feminine whimsy with live greenery, custom channel-back banquettes, tufted leather booths, and artist Johnny Lane’s playful modern portraits of women winking at guests. The open and airy Little Italy restaurant feels endless with a lounge area, a dining room, and a patio with a double-sided fireplace and plush couch seating. 2210 Kettner Blvd., Little Italy. (619) 955-8495 or herbandwood.com

If you are in the San Diego area, you must dine or at least cocktail at Herb & Wood. Tell them Uptown Acorn sent you.

Cheers!

Uptown Acorn Travels {Coronado Island}

No trip to southern California is complete without a trip to Coronado Island and the historic Hotel Del Coronado aka The Del.

Hotel del Coronado is an iconic destination at the Pacific’s edge just minutes from downtown San Diego. Its Coronado Island setting captures the relaxed beauty and seaside charms of the quintessential Southern California coastal lifestyle.

Complete with restaurants, bars, and shops, The Del is the perfect place to stay. I have not been to The Del since 2000, and it is just as beautiful as I remember it. The Del is the perfect juxtaposition between old and modern style.

Cheers to sea breezes!

What Makes Me Happy {Cooler temps/Lower humidity}

The best part in my book about traveling to Seattle, La Jolla, Coronado Island, and San Diego in the summer is the cooler temperatures and lower humidities. This type of climate makes me happy.

San Diego

It is so nice to be able to walk outside without sweat dripping down your back.

Back home right now, the summer temps are oppressive. I may never want to leave.

New Orleans

Cooler temperatures make me happy, y'all!

Touring San Diego Harbor

On Saturday afternoon, J & I took a Hornblower harbor cruise with the family while in San Diego.

The cruise around the harbor is a beautiful way to get acquainted with the San Diego coastline.

Hornblower’s San Diego boat tours combine sightseeing and wildlife watching for a narrated, family-friendly, two-tours-in-one experience. View natural wildlife and world-renowned landmarks such as the Star of India, Midway and Cabrillo National Monument.
Hornblower Cruises & Events is a treasured attraction on San Diego Bay for San Diego dinner cruises, San Diego harbor cruises, unforgettable weddings and corporate events. The San Diego Dinner Cruise departs every night of the year from docks located conveniently downtown and just minutes from San Diego Lindbergh Field. Hornblower provides exceptional customer service with 250,000 passengers enjoying a memorable cruise each year.

Just look at that beautiful blue sky. It doesn't get much better than this. Sail on!
