SUPERbowl in New Orleans 2013

I’m certain that if you are living on this planet we call Earth you already know that the Superbowl is this Sunday in the Big Easy. New Orleans is bustling at this time of year and with the impending Superbowl, the City is on steroids.

I love the this picture.

It is really exciting to see which stars are in town and witness the fervor that CBS has gone through to set up such glorious stages in and near Jackson Square. I adore how the stages use the ironwork that is similarly used throughout the Quarter. Keeping it NOLA! The stages are being used for a number of broadcasts by CBS.

I have been DVRing The Talk which is LIVE from Jackson Square each day this week. I enjoyed WWLs own Angela Hill on Tuesday. She is a true legend here in NOLA. Angela presented each of the hosts gifts we treasure so much at Mardi Gras--- Muses shoes, Barkus sceptor, Zulu coconut, kingcake earrings, crown.

I am also looking forward to Thursday’s LIVE show where Drew Brees will sit in as a co-host with the ladies.

The shows have been entertaining.

I have also been watching WWL’s Entertainment Show, New Orleans Tonight with WWL’s traffic girl, Sheba Turk, Meteorologist Laura Buchtel, and Tamica Lee (not sure who see is). They are live at 6:30 PM Central time nightly bringing local stories as well as Superbowl insights. It too is fun and entertaining.

I am not sure if J & I will get down there this weekend or not. I know parking will be a nightmare for sure. We have to hop on the streetcar.

If you are like me, I am not really rooting for any team in particular. I prefer to watch the halftime show. Beyonce will be stellar--- that I know! I definitely prefer the entertainment over the game.

This City is on fire. What other City could host a Superbowl smack dab in the middle of two weeks of Mardi Gras parades? Hmmmmm? Well, New Orleans can and will!

Will you be watching?

Mayas on Magazine {Restaurant}

Last week, J, BFF Randy, and I met for dinner at an establishment that J & I had long wanted to try, Mayas (Nuevo Latino). It is in the same block on Magazine Street as The Shops at 2011.

Mayas is a Latin American restaurant in the Lower Garden District serving Latin American, Cuban, and Caribbean dishes.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and welcoming.

We started off with three cocktails--- a glass of red wine for J, a blackberry mojito for Randy, and a Patron margarita for me.

photo_4

For an appetizer, we noshed on an amazing trio of guacamole--- pineapple guac, crab guac, and blue cheese guac. Each of them were delicious. They were accompanied by the most creative chips. The presentation was spot on.

For our main courses, we each had a different yet delicious meal.

J. enjoyed the Chicken Tropical - Grilled marinated chicken breast topped with a mango salsa and mango jalapeño sauce served over ranchero black beans and rice with sweet plantains. I like the M on the plate.

Randy enjoyed the Jamaican Scallops - Scallops sautéed in fresh pineapple juice, jalapeños, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, and piri piri sauce served over rice.

I dined on one of the most delicious fish dishes I have ever tried, the Tropical Fish - Grilled tilapia topped with a sweet mango salsa and mango jalapeño sauce
served over ranchero black beans and rice with sweet plantains.

The food, atmosphere, and service were all stellar. I will definitely be going back to Mayas really soon. I think this Magazine Street restaurant deserves a visit by you also. I really enjoyed the company and the food. Yum!

Mayas is located at 2027 Magazine Street. Dinner is served Tuesday- Thursday from 5:30 –10:00 PM and Friday-Saturday 4:00-11:00 PM. They are also open for lunch.

Health Update

I went to my new cardiologist at Ochsner (Main Campus) today. I really liked his demeanor and communication skills.

I had another EKG before seeing the doctor. I am still in A-Fib, but I figured as much.

The doctor studied all my former reports and was ready with possible scenarios.

I have been prescribed a medication for the A-Fib. He wants to see if the medication will help or solve my A-Fib issue. He also has ordered a Sleep Test and a Stress Test. Both appointments are coming up soon.

He has also referred me to a Heart Specialist who I will see in about one month.

So we do not know a whole lot more, but I do know that I was very impressed with today’s doctor. I feel very well informed of all possibilities--- good and bad.

Mayas, y’all!

Mardi Gras Flowers by Carnival Sculpture {2013}

With the Mardi Gras season fast approaching, I immediately contacted Brian Bush of Carnival Sculpture to create three of his flower sculptures in purple, green, and gold.

I added each of the flowers to the large chalkboard post in the rear of the home over the saying, “Laissez les bon temps rouler!”.

Together, they add just the right touch to my vast Mardi Gras decor.

Fresh Flowers… Mardi Gras style {2013}

I always love fresh flowers in the house. One or two fresh arrangements tend to make me happy.

1 4

When I need fresh flowers for the house or to be sent to a friend, I use Mitch’s Flowers on Magazine Street. It also houses my fave, Oysteria.

The fresh arrangements are always styled to perfection, and the flowers are healthy and fresh.

Just this week, I ordered a Mardi Gras-colored arrangement of purples, greens, and golds. Again, Mitch’s Flowers did an awesome job. The arrangement now sits on my parlor bench/coffee table.

Roses, tulips, stock, and other fillers make this “relaxed” arrangement a perfect compliment to my Mardi Gras decor.

And just take a look at the arrangement that arrived by delivery from Mitch’s Flowers yesterday. OMG! It is absolutely beautiful. Thanks to my BFFs Michael & Joey for thinking of me and sending such a gorgeous arrangement. You & Mitch’s Flowers know exactly what I like.

Filled with lilies, tulips, hydrangea, and touches of Mardi Gras in glittered sticks and coils, this arrangement is a perfect addition to my breakfast room table.

I also picked up a couple bunches of irises from Whole Foods. Their purple color is perfect for Mardi Gras. I added them to a great vignette.

More parades today! Yesterday, we enjoyed the picture perfect weather and 4 Uptown parades at our spot on Napoleon Avenue.

Health Update 2013:

I am also happy to report some good news. I had an ultrasound on Thursday of my heart. The cardiologist is happy to report that my heart muscles are getting stronger. Though I am still in A-Fib, I will take any good news. I do feel better and better each day. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I am taking the season in a low-key way --- no houseguests this weekend and no major celebrations. I know my friends understand that I still require rest.
