What Makes Me Happy {Holiday Decorating}

After a brief hiatus {summer}, What Makes Me Happy is back.

Ever since I was a young boy, I have always been enthralled with holiday decor. It never mattered what the holiday was, I loved to look at, shop for, and create seasonal looks. From Mardi Gras through Christmas, holiday decorating is a joy for me; however, finding the place to store it all can be a challenge.

Mardi Gras

St. Patrick's Day

Spring/Easter

Jazz Fest

July 4th

Halloween

Thanksgiving

Christmas

I try and keep things around my house fresh and original when it comes to seasonal decor.

Halloween Facade {Halloween 2017}

First of all, thanks for the concern. New Orleans was spared the worst of Hurricane Nate. Thanks for asking and for checking in with me.

Today, I'd like to share the facade of the home. This year I used a number of felt bats both downstairs on the porch and upstairs on the balcony.

In the doors, I once again used the Halloween-inspired streetcars by local artist Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door. Each door is surrounded by blackened branches filled with orange lights and flickering flame lights.

Black crows are perched in the transoms, on the window sills, and on the posts. The crow wreath is a new addition to the Halloween decor and is from Grandin Road.

Witches' legs come out of the urn.

Pumpkins from Hazel's Market fill the porch entrances.

The front garden features my favorite terra cotta pumpkin from Boxwoods in Atlanta and orange marigolds for the season.

Here's hoping you and yours have a SPOOKtacular October!

Red, White, and Blue

This year, I added red, white, and blue ribbons on the oyster shell wreaths in each door. The hand-painted wreaths are from artist Cynthia Kolls. Her work is available through her etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtbyCynthiaKolls?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Small flags were placed in my front pots and hanging baskets for a patriotic look.

I love using the metal flag in the front garden.

I did not use my red, white, and blue bunting this year due to construction on the railing up on the balcony. Construction is always on-going at this old home.

How are you celebrating the 4th of July holiday? I am beach ready!

It's March, and I'm GREEN with envy

The month of March is a busy and exciting one. March means birthdays---my sister’s(March 8), my own(March 9), and my nephew’s(March 25).  March also brings St. Patty’s Day(March 17) and the beginning of spring(March 20). March  brings on all things green, so I was super excited when the March issue of House Beautiful featured my absolute favorite color, green.

I love flipping through the pages of this decorating magazine must-have.
Searching the House Beautiful magazine and website, I found some great “green” rooms and things….

I too love to decorate with “pops” of green---wall color, pillows, framed prints, and hydrangeas. The freshness of the color green always puts a smile on my face. Take a look…

March on, y’all!
