Antlers & Acorns

It's November, and I could not wait to hang these on the front doors.

Thanks Cynthia Kolls for another perfect set of door hangings. These are just the perfect touch for the month of November and the Uptown Acorn. I cannot wait to show you these on my doors soon.

Bevolo-style Gas Lanterns

Oh! How I wish we had gas lanterns on our porch on Perrier Street! They scream Southern to me. But, I guess I do have the next best thing, Bevolo-styled gas lanterns by the uber-talented Cynthia Kolls.

I purchased these two at Bevolo on Royal Street two years ago. I love to use them between seasons. They always seem to bring us the biggest compliments.

So Happy to SEA You...

With the start of June, I was well overdue to change the door hangings, and these oyster shell wreaths are perfect for a southern summer.

Each oyster shell wreath is topped with a navy and white polka dot ribbon and bow. The navy and white say summer to me.

I also topped the real oyster shell wreath with the same blue and white polka dot ribbon.

The oyster shell wreaths are by ArtbyCynthiaKolls. I adore her art pieces from ornaments to door hangings. Each is a work of art and so well detailed.

Come SEA me, y'all!

Show Me The Door {All That Jazz}

It's festival season here in New Orleans. A couple weeks ago the French Quarter Festival was held in and near the Quarter. It is one of the largest, free festivals in the United States. This week the Jazz & Heritage Festival begins its first of two weekends at the Fairgrounds. Let's hope and pray for continued nice weather.

In anticipation of the festivals, I called upon Melissa Henry of Show Me The Door to design two streetcars with Jazzmen silhouettes. And she certainly delivered.

I adore the fun nature of each and the theme of "All That Jazz". You also have to love the musical note ribbon.

I also added the saxophone (also by Show Me The Door) to the large wreath on the front porch.

All That Jazz, y'all!

Welcome, y'all

There is nothing like a seasonal door to get you in the spirit of the season. I have created many in my lifetime. I just wish I would have kept documentation of my own creations through the years.

A Monogrammed Welcome

You know you’re Southern if you love a monogram. Monograms are staples around any good Southern home. I love monograms on pressed shirts, pillowcases, bath and beach towels, sweaters, totes, coffee mugs, etc. You name it, I like it monogrammed. So, imagine my pleasure when I discovered this custom door décor featuring what else but a monogram.

Take a look at this charming, original door decoration:

Don’t you just l-o-v-e it? I pass by this charming home daily on my way home from work. It is situated in Lakeview only a block or so from my school. I love the clean white color of the house. Moreover, I am in love with the pop of green of the front door. The black monogram of the homeowner makes a great statement as the perfect complement to the Southern charm of the home. The home and landscape are magazine perfect-as in Southern Living perfection!

A couple weeks ago, I was speaking (aka discussing our fav shows on Bravo!) with my BFF neighbor Shane about this very house and its original door décor, and lo and behold, Shane knew the lady who resides in that very house. Shane quickly contacted her and sent me her email address. I then contacted her just to make certain she would be willing to have her front façade featured in a future blog post of mine. I was elated when she said “of course”. The homeowner then told me that she received the monogrammed door piece from a friend as a birthday gift and suggested I check out the website, Southern Proper Monograms. Wow! I am in love. Check out this site, and I am certain you’ll be smitten too. Now, what can I order?

Have it monogrammed, y’all!

All that Jazz.....

It is festival season in New Orleans--- blue skies, windy days, sunshine (and an occasional shower), and lots of humidity. Once Easter comes, I change my door décor to the whimsical wooden saxophones which remain until Jazz Fest is over.

From French Quarter Fest through Jazz Fest, my wooden art makes a great statement.

Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door made these creations a couple years back, and each celebrates what the festival season is all about- good music! I just love how the addition of ribbons move with the wind.

Happy Festival Season, y’all!
