Late Bloomers?

I was so excited when the white wedding hydrangeas were planted into the landscaping last Fall. The hydrangeas were very late to green, not greening until late May after all leaves had fallen this winter. I'm just wondering why there are no blooms to date this summer. Are the blooms late too?

Any advice?

I have contacted the landscaper who put them in, and he referred me to the local nursery. I will try and get there this week.

On a side note, the begonias have bloomed beautifully.

Late-bloomers, y'all!

Acorn Cottage {Backyard: Spring}

It has been a while since I've shared the backyard of the Acorn Cottage. This post will be somewhat photo heavy, so grab your java and peruse on.

There is no secret that I love green and white in the garden. The rear of the house also features lots of green foliage interspersed with white accents. Since the yard is quite shady, I have used lots of different textured ferns to give interest. As you are aware, our front yard was professionally landscaped in a more formal way. In the backyard, I used many existing plants in a natural way. For spring I added the row of white (White Christmas) caladiums. There are also my favorite boxwoods which edge the garden and add some formality to the beds.

New furniture mixed with old makes the yard appear to have grown naturally over time. Remember, we have lived here since September 2018.

Come to the back and relax. Sit a spell! Sip a cocktail!

Here's how the yard looked when we purchased the home in May:

The Acorn Cottage {Landscape: Sneak Peek}

It is killing me to be at school today while the plants are being installed at the Acorn Cottage. I can hardly wait to get home today.

Chase's Landscape Services sent me a photo earlier today:

Just a tease....

The Acorn Cottage {Landscape Demo Day}

The front yard is undergoing a complete landscape overhaul. Do you remember what the yard looked like back in May?

Here it is:

The yard was completely overgrown and out of control. We had our yard man, Jorge, remove all the large trees and shrubs when we took over the ownership of the house on May 11.

The plan:

Chase's Landscape Services was hired to do the work, and it was started today (in the heavy rain, no doubt). Today during the breaks in the rain, the removal of old plant materials and roots and the addition of new landscape mix took place. Chase's Landscaping always use fresh landscape mix because the mix has the nutrients needed for plants to thrive.

I cannot wait for the installation tomorrow.
