Acorn Cottage Uptown {Backyard Furniture}

We have long term plans for the backyard which includes a lap pool as well as an arbor, but as we save funds we have slowly been replacing the backyard furniture which we have had since 2005. It moved with us from our Atlanta home to our Perrier home in 2010, and it was just sold to two families who will hopefully use it for a long time too.

I imagine a French-style garden, pool, and furniture.
Step #1 Chase's Landscapers added the vintage style cafe' lights. Check!

The addition of French-style bistro furniture including loveseats and chairs will add a touch of France to the garden. We chose these because of the exposed back yard. I hate having to bring cushions in and out. The bamboo frame is also outdoor friendly. Black and white cabana-striped pillows compliment the gray and white furniture. We also added an acrylic waterfall coffee table. One has to sit drinks, right?

The garden looks like this today. I'll update changes as they are made. We'd like to pull up some of the pavers and install dwarf mondo grass.

Personally, I like the look of an algaed patio. I love the greenish patina. I know it's not for everyone, but I like it.

French-inspired Furniture, y'all!

French Bistro Outdoor Furniture

J and I have been looking for new backyard furniture, and I keep coming back to to this French bistro loveseat and accent chairs.

Since the yard is open to the weather, I do not want cushions, for they are constantly wet and mildewed. The resin material of the settee and chairs and bamboo frame would be perfect to weather the elements.

I really like the neutral gray/white scheme, for it will go perfectly with the black and white awning stripes that I already have going on in the yard.

I am looking forward to using the backyard more as the spring season draws near.

It's French, y'all!

Shopping along Magazine Street.....Aux Belles Choses

J’adore Aux Belles Choses! As many of you already know, I love anything French. I guess it’s in my blood. Oui!

As soon as you walk into the door the waft of fresh lavender transports you all the way to the south of France. I envision miles and miles of lush lavender fields. The scent is intoxicating. The shop is full of an array of French wares--- many vintage. From finely milled soaps, linens, and vintage silver, the shop has Oooo-la-la written all over it. Housed in a charming New Orleans-style home, Aux Belles Choses has many fine gifts and accessories to offer the Frenchman in all of us.

Aux Belles Choses is located @ 3912 Magazine Street. It was opened in 1991and offers a wide variety of handpicked European & European-inspired items for the home.
Take a peek at some of my favorite finds during a recent visit to Aux Belles Choses:

Uptown Acorn Eats {La Crepe Nanou}

     On a cold winter's evening, the warmth and ambiance of La Crepe Nanou is always a welcome treat. La Crepe Nanou is described as " a romantic neighborhood bistro". Located just a few blocks from home, La Crepe Nanou is a destination of J & I.

The facade

     The menu features traditional French fare, crepes, cheese fondue, pate', salads, fresh fish, grilled and roasted meats, signature moules frites, and delicious dessert crepes.

Le menu

     The ambiance is warm and very French. Oooooo la la!

     J & I order our round of drinks- Ketel One vodka martinis. We also select our usual and oh-so delicious appetizer Soupe a la Oignon (onions with crouton and melted cheese) and the signature frites. All are "bon, bon, bon"!

Cheers!

French Onion Soup

Crispy fries

     For the main course, J orders the Crepe Sawmon- salmon, cream cheese, capers served with fresh steamed asparagus. I order the Crepe aux Ecrevisse- sauteed Louisiana crawfish tails in lobster sauce served with potatoes. Both are always excellent choices.
