From Our Home to Yours {Smell of Christmas}

Winter scents have been a favorite of mine for a long time. This year I was happy to discover the SoH Melbourne St. Nicholas candle. It is the perfect scent for the Christmas season.

A limited edition, Christmas fragrance by SoH Melbourne. Featuring rich notes of Smoke Ash, Fir Needles and Pine for a traditional take on Christmas.
Hand-poured in Melbourne into a beautifully tapered, navy green glass vessel, this candle is stylish and elegant.

The glass cloche is also by SoH. And the candle smells wonderful.

{St} Britney

If you've followed this blog over the last 6 years, you know I am a huge fan of pop singer, Britney Spears, so I was super excited to receive this "holy" candle from a couple of my students this week.

The candle sits in a prominent place at Acorn Cottage.

These and many other "holy" candles are sold at Fleurty Girl (several locations around New Orleans).

Scentsational Scoop {Baobab Women}

I love a good candle, and the Baobab Collection has peeked my senses lately. We all know someone who is suffering or who has suffered with breast cancer, so this candle helps that cause. The Baobab Women candle smells of magnolia, rose, and musk. Just look how beautiful the vessel of this candle is.

Baobab Collection supports BIG and breast cancer research with an exclusive collection of scented candles called “Women”. Its glass is covered in a graphic printed pattern inspired by the symbol of femininity. A gold rim surrounds this powder pink pattern, and reminds us how precious women are. With this collection, Baobab Collection hopes to show its love for women and vows to support a cause that affects everyone in one way or another: breast cancer research. We hope that the Women candle will shine light on this cause, because without this research we will never beat the scourge that robs us of our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, and our friends.

It is always a good feeling to give back!

Scentsational Scoop {Baobab candle}

I love a great candle, and this is a good one. Housed in a beautiful, decorative glass jar, Baobab candles are works of art as well as "scentsational".

The inspiration:

"Baobab Collection first saw the light of day in 2002, in the enchanting landscape of Tanzania, a country rich in intense colors and bewitching perfumes. The collections are inspired by faraway spaces and wild nature but it is in Belgium that the new creations are dreamed up."

J & I purchased the Manhattan candle from Sotre on Magazine Street this summer. It was placed on the mantle and remains there today.

"Celebrate one of the world’s most iconic cities with this Manhattan scented candle from Baobab. Presented in a clear glass vessel, this candle is adorned with a shimmering silver metallic fretwork design inspired by the breathtaking Chrysler building in New York. Handmade and hand poured, it has notes of rich musk, lily of the valley and pine tree to infuse any room with the intoxicating perfume of the city."

SCENTsational Saturday {Dune Lily & Sea Salt}

Let me share the latest, favorite candle scent of mine, Dune Lily & Sea Salt by Graybill & Downs. It is a perfect choice for summer.

I recently picked up one from Shaun Smith Home on Magazine Street. The scent reminds me of sitting on a balcony seaside with the wafts of salt, sand, and lilies in the beach air.

The candle is described as:

Coastal breezes stir the white dunes of Cumberland Island as sea turtles watch wild descendants of English horses race across its pristine beach. The distinct scent of sea salt first invigorates, then calms as it intermingles with that of seagrass and dune lilies.  Inspired by childhood escapes to this magical place, Graybill & Downs introduces its newest Southern/English-inspired fragrance just in time for summer — Dune Lily and Cumberland Sea SaltA one-of-a-kind fragrance that lingers in memory, like Cumberland Island itself.

My Own Science Experiment, Kobo's Plant the Box Calendula Candle

BFF Richard of San Francisco gifted me with a candle that I had never heard of (imagine that!) when he visited recently for French Quarter Fest. It is Kobo’s Catalan Calendula Plant the Box candle. You heard me right. It is a candle in an eco-friendly box with seeds glued to the top. The directions are easy. Simply soak the box in water, plant the box in soil, give it some love (water, sunlight), and watch it grow. It is like a do-it-at-home science project. Oh what fun!

Yesterday, I planted the box in a faux bois concrete pot, placed it in a sunny spot on the patio, watered it, and now I wait for it to grow. I will document the progress. Stay tuned.

The candle itself is the catalan calendula scent. The calendula, also called pot marigold, is in the daisy family. I also found out that calendula has been used traditionally as both a culinary and medicinal herb. The petals are edible and can be used in fresh salads. Hmmmm? I’ll see about that later.

Water and watch it grow, y’all!

Scentsational Scoop.....Niven Morgan's New Orleans candle

As you already know, I adore Niven Morgan candles and products. Way back in January, I blogged his Paris candle, a warm & inviting scent perfect for the winter months.

Today, I feature one of my springtime favs, Niven Morgan's New Orleans candle.

The New Orleans candle is the perfect scent of spring filled with throws of both jasmine and gardenia. Niven captures the breezes and gardens of a New Orleans spring perfectly.

The candle is described as "distilling the dreamy ambience of the Vieux Carre'- the nightscented jasmine-covered gates that open to secluded courtyards and candle-lit salons where all things are possible." Doesn't that sound inviting? I think so.

The New Orleans candle can be purchased locally at Little Miss Muffin in Lakeview.

Scentsational Scoop.....Low Country Luxe's New Orleans Candle

As you know from a previous blog post, one of my most favorite candle lines is Low Country Luxe of Savannah, GA.
During the spring months, one candle that I love to burn is the New Orleans candle by Low Country Luxe.

The New Orleans candle was first produced in 2008 as a “limited edition” candle scent. It became so popular that it is now part of the Low country Luxe permanent candle line.

The scent was inspired by the courtyards and gardens of New Orleans.
The candle is a blend of sweet tea olive along with citrus fruits of tangerine, kumquats, and mandarin which surround a heart accord of the sweet tea olive blossoms with oakmoss and soft musks.

The Low Country Luxe New Orleans candle is available locally at Hal Williamson Designs on Magazine Street and at Chic Chateau in Thibodaux.

Take a walk through New Orleans, y’all!

Key Lime Pie St. Patrick's Day cocktail

Do you remember years ago when you begged your mother to put out your favorite green shirt the night before school so that you would not get pinched at school? Aaaaah, childhood memories are the best!
Fast forward years later and instead of deciding what green shirt to wear, I search for what green cocktail will be my choice for the day. Searching the vast internet for green cocktail ideas, I stumbled on a delicious sounding Key Lime St. Patrick’s Day cocktail. I could hardly wait to gather up the ingredients and make this tasty sounding libation.

Here are the ingredients & recipe for the Key Lime Pie St. Patrick’s Day cocktail…
1 lime
Vodka
1 can limeade (small)
Vanilla
Green food color
Ice
Ginger ale
Cut lime into small wedges.
Put the lime wedges, four ounces of vodka, and one and a half ounces of thawed limeade drink(frozen concentrate), & one teaspoon of vanilla in a cocktail shaker .
Add two or three drops of food color. Add a splash of ginger ale. Cover with ice. Shake the mixture well. Strain into your favorite green glass. You may rim the glass with sugar. Yummy! Go ahead. Try it today.

And what an appropriate candle by Lux for St. Patty's Day. The candle is called "Good Luck" and smells of fields of clover. The candle was purchased last year from House of Fashion in Thibodaux.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, y’all!
