Acorn Cottage {Devon Planter}

It was a beautiful weekend. J & I recently purchased the Devon rectangular planter from Grandin Road, and this weekend it was filled with plants from my favorite Perino's Garden Center. The Devon planter is substantial in size and fits perfectly in the niche created by the front porch window.

I filled the planter with boxwoods, ferns, variegated ivy and white petunias. The petunias will take us through the spring and summer seasons. I plan on adding white caladiums soon.

Late Summer/ Early Fall Garden {Coleus Plants}

My begonias were looking quite leggy, so out they went. In their place went several coleus plants surrounding by white vincas. The color of the coleus plants will be perfect for the months of October and November. They will then be replaced by white pansies, a favorite of mine in the winter months.

Scientific namePlectranthus scutellarioides

The coleus plants are looking great in the front garden.

Succulents don't "suck"

I really have never been a huge fan of growing succulents, but after attempting to grow plants in shallow containers I succumbed to at least trying them. You know what? I kinda like them. They are easy to grow and need minimal (very minimal) care. I added succulents in the shallow containers on the back patio.

Here is your biology lesson for the day:

In botany, succulent plants, also known as succulents, are plants that have some parts that are more than normally thickened and fleshy, usually to retain water in arid climates or soil conditions. The word "succulent" comes from the Latin word sucus, meaning juice, or sap.

Around New Orleans {New Orleans Botanical Garden}

The weather finally feels somewhat like Fall here in New Orleans, so it was a perfect day to venture to the New Orleans Botanical Garden at City Park.

The gardens are so well maintained and feature many different types of plant species. We were also greeted by scarecrows completed by businesses and school groups around the city.

Add the Botanical Garden to your must-see list this Fall. You will not be disappointed.

How Does Your Garden Grow ? {Spring 2017}

Recently, I planted the late spring/summer begonias. The front garden is looking very lush as temperatures have been so pleasant.

As you can spot, one of the begonias dares to be different. In a sea of white begonias, there is one pink begonia. Yes! I left it. Dare to be different, folks!

The front garden consists of sweet olive trees, cast-iron plants, indian hawthorne, hydrangeas, foxtail ferns, and the giant leopard plants. I also added several caladium plants as well as bulbs that have yet to sprout out of the ground. The caladiums will grow out of the giant leopard plants. As I've stated many times, I just love a garden of greens and whites. Besides looking great during the day, the white pops at night.

Have you accomplished your spring plant yet?
