When the Mardi Gras lights came on with the 8-10 inches of snow we received last week, it was magical. You certainly do not see this much in the Deep South.
sNOwLA, y'all

Thanks again for following along. I hope I'll continue to hear from you in 2025.
I love fresh flowers, and the shades of the Mardi Gras season. Again this year, I headed to my local florist, Mitch's Flowers on Magazine Street for Carnival-spirited designs. Monique and her team hit it out of the park once again. Blooms in shades of purple, green, and gold are ready to greet our many guests this Carnival season.

Fresh Flowers, y'all!
Many Mardi Gras krewes these days have a coveted signature throw, and King Arthur is no exception. The members decorate grails in traditional Mardi Gras finery or to go with the chosen annual theme. This year's theme is an ode to Broadway and its popular musicals.
Thanks to friends, I was able to score three beautiful grails to add to my collection of glittered Mardi Gras art/junk.

I've used Holiballs at Christmas, and they are also fun to share the Carnival spirit. The purple, classic green, and (mari)gold are my three favorites during the Mardi Gras season. Spread theorufh the front garden, the Holiballs add a festive touch all season long.

Carnival-colored Holiballs, y'all!
I'm excited to share my newest hand-painted doorhanger from Southern Antiques.
The Mardi Gras-inspired disco ball is a perfect welcome for Carnival guests. I adore the textures of this great art piece. The ribbons add to the festive flair.

Mardi Gras Disco Ball, y'all!
During the majority of the year, the living room is the place where most guests enter our home. However, during the Carnival season, the front door remains locked, and invited guests know where to enter Acorn Cottage.
Placed in the living room are four of my favorite papier mache' lieutenants and Zulu warrior custom-crafted by a local artist for Judy at the Rink. I purchased each many years ago and do not recall the artist's name.

The coffee table also holds a palm frond filled with doubloons always a coveted throw from a parade. Pillows and decorated sconces complete the Carnival look.

Carnival in the Living Room, y'all!
Since the "sunroom" is in the front of Acorn Cottage, J and I spend lots of time in here with guests sharing conversation and cocktails. I bet we spend the most time in the sunroom during the weeks that lead up to Mardi Gras day. The view from the room affords us the opportunity to observe parade revelers and guests as they traverse to and from Napoleon Avenue which is only one block away.
Jesters, pillows, wreaths, and crowns all help to spread the Carnival spirit. Oh! And do not forget the irises......
