Friday Flashback... Georgia "Landscape" Is On My Mind

Those of you who know me know that I love a beautiful yard. A well-manicured curb has always appealed to my senses.
In these long winter months, I often think back to the beautiful landscape that J & I created and enjoyed immensely in the yard of our Atlanta home we built in 2004.
You see, our New Orleans home only has a very tiny front yard (if you want to call it a yard) and a typical NOLA courtyard out back---there is NO GRASS at all. There is certainly not much to maintain.
Though the landscape we possess now is well kept and manicured, I do often long for the beauty of a lush, flower-filled landscape set high upon a gently sloping hill.

J & I did have the help of a local landscape firm who installed many of the larger plants and trees, but each plant was carefully and lovingly selected by me.
I love lots of greenery---English ivy, boxwoods, indian hawthornes, creeping fig---mixed with hydrangeas, crepe myrtles, creeping wisteria, and leland cypress.
I love geraniums, caladiums, lantana, and begonias to add a nice punch of color.

So here is a tour of the landscape of my former landscape that was installed and maintained with tender loving care. Grab your coffee and enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed this tour. I cannot wait until winter has passed, and it is time again for some spring color in the landscape.

  3. Looks great - lush and manicured at the same time. Curious: How big was the Nachez crepe when planted and how do you trim them - lop it off each winter for a 'ball' growth or trim as necessary.

    1. I pruned as necessary. I hate what is called "crepe murder" where the tops are chopped off.

  4. I am a new reader who also lives in Louisiana. I am just now checking out yours and J's Atlanta home. The yard is beautiful! It is exactly what I would love to create for my yard! I don't know how you were able to leave such an oasis! Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration. Jody
