Dave Glover’s Sweet Summer Surprise {cocktail}

Though I am a guy that loves to simply put his flag up at a resort and have the staff bring me a cocktail, it is always great to be surrounded by great friends who “spoil” me while on the Grand Isle shore. Whether it is J constantly getting me a beverage, Jenn delivering a sensational new concoction, or Mike transporting the wine at Happy Hour, I love being served.

During the Memorial Day weekend, I was certainly spoiled (or should I say entertained) yet again. BFF Celeste’s hubbie, Dave, certainly delivered the goods with an amazing cocktail on Saturday evening. He quickly and also amusingly named the cocktail of the moment, Dave’s Sweet Summer Surprise. And you certainly have to appreciate a “straight man’s” perspective when it comes to presentation. I personally applaud his efforts. He actually took the mosaic candle hurricane off the table at his camp, cleaned it, and used it as a large drinking vessel. For those who know me and read my blog, you know that often presentation is more important than the cocktail itself. Kudos to Dave! His wife Celeste actually doctored his leafy creation!

Let me just say, this drink was delicious and would make the perfect summer party cocktail. The recipe:

  • 1 fifth Southern Comfort
  • 1 large can frozen orange juice
  • 1 large can frozen lemonade
  • 1 large can pineapple juice and pineapple chunks
  • 1 16 oz. jar cherries and juice

Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl.  Refrigerate or freeze in zip loc bags. Before serving mix in a 2 L ginger ale.

Refreeze any left-over.

All I can say is this cocktail was refreshing, summery, and potent all at the same time. Great job, Dave.

I now expect future cocktail service on the beach again soon.

Cheers to summer cocktails, y’all!
