Decking the Halls along the bayous… {Christmas 2012}

It has become tradition on the day after Thanksgiving to decorate my sister’s (Colette) home in Houma and my Aunt’s (Sugar) home in Thibodaux.

2

The day always starts with a huge breakfast prepared by Honey then J & I are off to transform the sis’s home into a Christmas masterpiece. J strings the lights on the tree inside for me as I decorate outside.

With the assistance of cousin Laurie, we always seems to whip it out faster.

My sister prefers a real tree, 10-12 foot, so the high ladder is in order (and I’m pretty scared of heights).

Though there is no theme, my sis prefers an array of child-like ornaments. Large replicas of ‘elf on a shelf” sit at the top. Bows of metallic green with red dots glisten with the white lights.

The mantle is decked out with two of the most precious drummer boys, one for each of her boys. A vintage wooden train and truck are filled with greenery and toys. The colorful ball garland and embroidered stockings completes the look.

The outside of the home is classic. Greenery and wreaths bedecked in ribbons of red and gold, traditional and elegant. Two white pumpkin topiaries have been transformed into snowmen with a simple kit from Michael’s Craft store.

Look who was our audience, 4 thumbs up! Lucy is saying “Cheers” with her can of Sprite. Atta girl! xo

lunch time

Around 5:00 PM, we all travelled back to Thibodaux to decorate Sugar’s home. Cousin Laurie is a big fan of the “candy theme” as evidenced in the tree decor, garlands, wreath, and accessories. My cousin Laurie loves Christmas as much as I do.

  6. How fun and festive! Everything looks beautiful! We haven't started anything here yet. It was warm yesterday and I told my husband he better take advantage of the weather and put up the outside lights. He waited and now it is freezing! We actually saw some snow flurries earlier! As much as I enjoy summer, I just love this time of year! I will be pulling out the decorations tomorrow! Ho Ho Ho!

  9. Everything looks great, Ron. What a fun tradition...well, at least fun for the ones that get the decorating done for them! I got my outside stuff done in the last day or so....lots of deep burgundy and I went with gold this year after several years of silver. I will start inside tomorrow-Lord willing- xo Diana
