Friday Flashback {The Nest}

When J and I built our Atlanta home, it was a 2000 square foot 2 bedroom/2 1/2 bath home. Though it was plenty big enough, we always knew that 3 bedrooms would make it easier to sell. In the summer of 2007, we enlisted a local contactor to add a third bedroom in much of the existing, non-accessible “attic” space.

This is how it started in August 2007. By the way, J & I left for an out of state vacation the very next day. I guess we were super trusting (and much younger) back then.

I had the best time scouring Atlanta’s best sources for furniture and accessories for this new room. An antique chandelier was purchased from Scott’s Antiques as well as two wall sconces.

The Audubon blue heron print was also purchased from a vendor at Scott’s.

The antique full bed was a lucky find from Huff Road’s Antiques Warehouse which was in the space occupied by Stanton Home today.

I decorated the space with egg and nest prints as well as birds. The space became known as “the Nest”.

I adore the wall seat and custom shelves. The drapes were also custom as well as all pillows.

The room became my fave in the house.

The addition of the bedroom/bath truly paid off as our house sold quickly in 2008.

See the bath next week….

Though I loved the room, I am not certain that I would ever want to live through an addition ever again.

The Nest, y’all!

  2. What a charming room! I haven't been to Scott's since I moved to Athens. Well, I have too much stuff anyway. Love the print. Do you do all the decorating or does J have input...curious minds want to know!

  10. What a beautiful guest room! I love the bird theme you used in there. I think that was a wise move to add a third bedroom to your house. I'm sure it helped with your resale.

  16. Great space and perfect for a guest room. Living through additions is painful. We are considering a bathroom remodel, and that along has us dragging our feet. ;-)

  17. Even though you did the room in 2007, it's still fresh and timeless. Love your choice of colors, and Audubon print.
