Share Your Style #14

Thanks to your guesses on this creature my principal found yesterday roaming on the school deck.

It is a Eastern Click Beetle.

They are elongated, shiny black with small white dotlike scales on the back. Click beetles can be found in deciduous, mixed woods, especially around rotting lumber. They are normally found East of the Rocky Mountains. The adult seems to eat little, but larva attacks the roots of many kinds of plants and preys on small animals in the soil.

Now that you have had an Entomology 101 lesson, Martina of Northern Nesting, this week's host, will now share more pretties with you today.
