I recently spotted this article on SL.com (Southern Living): click HERE for more.

I do not say all of these, but there are many I have used. Many of these sayings are part of our lexicon.

  5. Cute! I haven't heard some of those in years. My grandmother always said "heavens to Betsy". I occasionally say "bless her heart", but usually I mean it sarcastically!!!

  6. LOL Have to laugh, we always said "Fixin' to" when we were getting ready to do something. My dad would reply, "why? is it broke?"

  7. I am originally from Memphis and I have said/say all of them. When my daughter was a baby, I guess I said "heavens to betsy," because she would just exclaim, "Betsy!" when she was exacerbated. :)

  12. Yep...I've heard all of them. Our colorful American English. Love it. I used to hate it...as I taught my senior eng students to use proper English in their essays, etc. Now...out of the classroom, I appreciate those sayings more. ha!
