The Big Bad Musical.....A Howling Courtroom Comedy

It is tradition at St. Paul’s Episcopal that the 8th grade class put on a musical or play each year. This year’s 8th grade class (of 8 students) did not disappoint as they put on an awesome musical entitled, “The Big Bad Musical, A Howling Courtroom Comedy”.

The 8th graders even asked three faculty members to participate, and I was one of the lucky ones to be asked. Hmmmm? Am I theatrical? Am I good at drama? Do I sing? Well, your guess is as good as mine. I agreed to participate as Pig Three (the intelligent Piggy) of the famous Three Little Pigs along with colleagues Andrew Doyle (Pig One, Oh-Nay) & Shannon Del Corral (Pig Two, T’Woah). Studying to memorize lines and studying cues, the Three Little Pigs were willing, ready, and able to have a great time.

A little about the musical by Alec Strum:
“A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical!  This smart and wickedly funny musical is great for actors and audiences of any age.  The jury — the audience — must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world!  The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even:  Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.  With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.  As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming.  Yet, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself.  Was he born a criminal, or made one?  This musical has it all — minimal set and costume requirements, a good balance of stage time for each character, multiple endings to make every performance unique and Bill Francoeur’s toe-tapping tunes!”

Three performances---last Friday for the school, today at 2:30 pm for friends and family, and tomorrow evening at 7:00---The Big Bad Musical was enjoyed by students, parents, and fellow teachers alike.

May all your ever-afters be happy, y’all!
