Ma Maison…The Den {and a Happy Birthday, Laurie}

I hope you are continuing to enjoy my house tour, room by room.
Just beyond the dining room is the den. The back of the home is a complete open floor plan- kitchen, breakfast room, dining room, and den. It is a great entertaining space. Today, I’d like to share my den with you.
1
From the dining room, enter the den between two occasional chairs covered in animal print. The French shape and styling of the chairs makes these Louis XV chairs one of my favorites. Chairs were purchased in 2008 from Hurwitz-Mintz. Heron pillows are from Home & Garden in Covington. The burlap topped bench is from House of Fashion.
2
3
The fireplace is topped by a large flat screen TV from Sony. Atop the TV are three Two’s Company mirrored framed prints of red coral from Hazelnut.
12
13
Flanking the fireplace are two shelf towers that were once part of an entire TV unit used in our Atlanta home. I think the end towers flank the fireplace just fine. Stitting on top of each piece is a vintage demijohn purchased from one of my Atlanta favs, Providence, located on N. Highland in Atlanta. I wonder if Providence is still there as I could not locate its website.
10 11
Let’s take a look at the left shelf tower. Top shelf includes a Vagabond House pear branch tray with a couple vintage silver bowls. Bowls are filled with curiosities such as shells and numbered/lettered ceramic balls. A square Abigail’s fleur de lis embossed ceramic tray completes the back of the top shelf vignette.
4
The middle tray includes three silvered boxes of differing sizes from Boxwoods in Atlanta and a large ceramic shell from Chic Chateau.
5
The lower shelf houses one of my favorite coffee table books ever, Cabinet of Natural Curiosities by Albertus Seba. I have always loved the red coral on the cover. A handmade chip & dip tray from our trip to Ocean Springs from Hillyer House sits atop the book.
6
Moving on to the shelves of the right shelf tower. The top shelf features a fleur de lis embossed ceramic tureen from Abigail’s backed by another Abigail’s square ceramic tray.
7
The middle shelf houses another of my favorite coffee table books, Ralph Lauren, my all-time favorite designer. A large silver bowl filled with my collection of shed antlers completes the look.
8
On the bottom shelf is the DVR box, a framed photograph, and a vintage antler-handled calligraphy brush from Agora Galleries on Magazine Street.
9
Along the back wall of the den are the sofa and sofa table. The sofa is also from Hurwitz-Mintz. The sea-inspired large pillows lining the sofa are recent purchases from Chic Chateau. I love to switch the pillows seasonally. The middle. smaller pillow of starfish is from House of Fashion. The placement of pillows was inspired by an article I read in a recent Southern Living feature by designer Phoebe Howard.
15
In back of the sofa is a wooden sofa table from The Plantation Shop in Amelia Island, FL. The glass urn lamps are Restoration Hardware finds topped with burlap shades from Ballard Designs. The Southern bird oil is from Chic Chateau. Two vintage wicker vessels are from Antique Distributors (closed in 2007) in Atlanta and a driftwood sculpture.
16
Artwork from Ballard Designs and House of Fashion (red coral) complete the sofa wall. Silk drapes are from Pottery Barn. The large windows (sliders) frame the courtyard view.
17 18
On the coffee table are an oyster shell hurricane I created last summer, a couple Oysteria plates, coffee table books, and a toile tray filled with some of my favorite magazines and books. The coffee table is actually an old gate forged onto a metal frame. The table is from Frontera, Birmingham, AL.
25
Aside the sofa is an end table featuring a vignette of several home accessories including a large lidded urn filled with shells, a magnifying glass on stand from Pied Nu, a silver champagne urn filled with lavender and white coral, framed photos of the nephews, an Alison Evans tray, and a another ceramic coastal creation from Hillyer House in Ocean Springs.
19
A cane back chair is covered in red cane fabric from Calico Corners. The fleur de lis lumbar pillow is from Little Miss Muffin.
20
The most comfortable leather chair from now defunct Rich’s (circa 2004) in Atlanta features a red cable knit throw from Ralph Lauren and a linen burlap-like pillow from Chic Chateau. The small wooden and bamboo side table beside the leather recliner is from Hazelnut topped with a vintage bamboo style metal lamp from Agora Gallery, a silver round tray, a glass orb, and two framed photos.
23
28
The post near the leather chair holds my collection of Laurel Wilder New Orleans plates, an industrial sconce from Pottery Barn, and a turtle shell.
24
The rug is a large sisal one bordered in brown fabric.

I hope you enjoyed this tour. Let me know what you think of my den below.
Happy Touring, y’all!

  2. First of all let me say thank you for your sweet comment and secondly...how in the world have I missed your fabulous blog?! I know I'll be spending part of my time today looking around your beautiful home.

Love that you give resources for items in your home...and I didn't know Rich's had gone out of business. I guess I never noticed when I've gone to Birmingham to shop, I know they had stores there at one time. Just goes to show I didn't shop there much in the last 20+years.

    Thanks again for stopping by!

    1. We used to shop at Rich's at Perimeter Mall. I think it may be a Macy's now. I do not recall. Thanks for following!

  4. I love perusing(Senior English vocabulary word!)your "virtual" tours! As all of your rooms, your den is beautiful--you sure know how to showcase everything in it. I am now the proud owner of two of the pieces that you own--the Alison Evans tray and the Oysteria plate with the six oyster shells on it. :) I really think that you should be an interior decorator--imagine the fun that you could have spending other people's money and transforming their homes! Can't wait to see the next room. I am definitely coming this summer to see your home and have lunch with you--I'm bringing Noby with me. ;)

  8. Love this space, Ron, and all of the textures you used (the shed antlers ... wicker vessels ... gorgeous pillows ... coastal accents) ... they work beautifully together! And, thank so much for your kind note about the redo I did for my parents' sunroom. We found the bundle of driftwood at a local furniture store ... I'll be happy to pass along the phone number, if you'd like.

  9. Ron -
Providence Antiques is still here! I think I might be glad you aren't still living in Atlanta, because you might be in front of me buying all the beautiful stuff that I want! I just love your taste, especially how you have such a different riff on coastal.....not the predictable. Now that I think of it, it would be fun if you WERE in Atlanta...we could have a little retail fun together.

  10. Hi Ron! Gosh, I just loved the tour of your den...so much eye candy! It was fun to see all the many places that you have gathered your collections from. Do you keep your shells and coral out all year or just in the summer time? Thanks so much for taking time to post the photos and descriptions for us. I saw your post over at "No Minimalist Here".

  11. Ron, this is my first visit to your blog (I am your newest follower!) and I am drooling over your beautiful things. Ralph Lauren is my favorite designer, too! Any mention of Rich's makes me teary-eyed. I have lived in Georgia my whole life and have so many memories of shopping there from the time I was a child. I love this post and please tell Laurie, "Happy Birthday" from me!
