Parlor Mantle {Late Winter 2013}

Halloween. Fall. Christmas. Mardi Gras. The seasonal decorations are down, and there is a lull until the next holiday. So, the parlor mantle is a simple, late winter display of my vintage trophy collection and vintage apothecary bottles.

The entire mantle is perfect for a late winter’s display.

The lower mantle features two large trophy cups topped with preserved green boxwood orbs. The orbs are uber expensive but fits the theme so well. Each trophy cup sits atop a stack of vintage, leather-bound books. Apothecary bottles are filled with curiosities (magnifying glass & vintage calligraphy brush), fresh lavender branches, mini NOLA banners, and typography ceramic balls. A couple smaller preserved green orbs are placed throughout the vignette.

The upper mantle features my two large dried arrangements made by me many years ago (click: The Acorn at Wisteria Hill). I still love the way they look today. A collection of trophy cups store more springs of lavender and another boxwood ball. Boxwood orbs are also scattered along the mantle.

I think the use of my collection of trophy cups and apothecary jars along with sprigs of lavender from Aux Belles Choses and preserved boxwood balls make a fantastic mantle display for late winter.

  6. Luvly Ron. The preserved orbs are wonderful and they look great int he vintage trophies.
    Double mantel = double the display area for beautiful things.

    1. Barbara, you can spell it either way: fireplace mantel or fireplace mantle. The dictionary lists both spellings and defines a mantle as “a shelf that projects from a wall above a fireplace; and the finish around a fireplace”.
