The West or Bust

I need some advice from my readers, please.

I will be traveling out West in July and would love for your input on places to visit, restaurants to eat, bars to sip, shops to peruse....

I would appreciate any information on these three cities:

Seattle

Portland

Palm Springs

Thanks for your comments!

The West, y'all!

  1. If you have time while in Seattle, take a day and take the ferry from Mukulteo to Whidbey Island. Drive up to Langley and shop the adorable shops along the waterfront. Then drive to Coupeville and go to Toby's Tavern for the BEST mussels anywhere!! If you have time drive up to Deception Pass Bridge and park, breathtaking views!! From there you can drive out to i5 and back to Seattle.

  2. Portland - I highly recommend going to the Columbia River Gorge down the scenic route and going to Multnomah Falls. It is one of the prettiest parts of the entire country. It's also nice to have a picnic in the International Rose Test Garden.
Seattle - I agree, going on a ferry ride is a lot of fun. You can also take the one to Bainbridge Island; its a little bit shorter than the one to Whidbey. Whidbey island is pretty. Lots of people like to go to Pike's Place and see them throw the fish around.
There are lots of great places to eat in either city; since it's Summer, I recommend trying Salt & Straw, which is Portland's hippest ice cream shop.
Have lots of fun, I grew up in the NW, looking forward to some trip reports!

  4. Portland is experiencing very high temps right now which are much higher than normal. I think you're used to it so I imagine you'll do all right. Check out that restaurant in downtown Portland that we ate at- here is the link- http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/locations/portland. There's a humongous book store nearby too http://www.powells.com.

  5. Good evening, Ron! Sadly to say, I have never been to any of these cities, but if you were going to Carmel by the Sea, I could recommend so many things to do. Will be looking forward to your blogs when you "go West"! Have a great evening! Cheers! xoxo
