The Acorn Cottage {Shelving}

When we first saw the house there was a monstrosity in the den, i.e. a large brick structure flanked by drawers, a hood, and spotlights. My first thought was "UGH"!!! We discovered that this structure was once an outdoor grill/ fire pit. The room had been added on, and the "structure" was simply turned into an entertainment center but not a great one at that.

The "structure":

Just look how awkward this piece looks in the den. And what is the Dumbo stuffed animal doing up there? The couple had no children therefore no grandkiddos.
So, we decided to turn the "structure" into a more visually appealing place to hold our TV and adjustable shelving to hold books and other accessories. We enlisted Floyd Kyle, a carpenter who is also a dad of one of my students. He started the installation earlier this week and should be finished soon. He designed the shelving to the ceiling and added one more large drawer for the middle of the unit where the TV is placed in the above photo.

In progress:

I will share more of the built-ins when they are completed and more of the den area. The painter will do his thing tomorrow.

Oh! And pray for decent weather as the landscaper is starting tomorrow and will install plants on Friday.

More Shelving, y'all!

  2. Wow-Sorry but that was REALLY ugly before. lol Can't wait to see the new improved version. Maybe that elephant was a reminder of their trip to Africa where they were hoping to adopt grandchildren? Just a thought! lol

    Praying you have good weather tomorrow for the install! xo Diana
