Flashback Friday {Mardi Gras Facade 2021}

 Yesterday, a photo of the Acorn Cottage was posted to instagram by the great folks at Bevolo, our source for gas lights. The photo was taken by @nola_val (Valerie Esparza) during the 2021 Carnival season. It is a great photo of the facade in her purple, green, and gold finery.

I have not decorated yet, but I will soon. I am waiting on a project to be completed soon. I hope to decorate fully by the Martin Luther King holiday.

The Acorn Cottage {Gas Lantern}

The one thing I've been waiting to be installed is the Bevolo French Quarter gas lantern. It was plumbed yesterday, and I am in LOVE. It has only taken me 50 years to finally have the one thing that I have absolutely wanted for a long, long time. The flickering flame is definitely a Southern charmer.

The Acorn Cottage {Copper Awning}

Church bells ring!!! Finally, the copper awning produced by C. Bel Awnings of New Orleans was installed onto the cottage yesterday. I like bells and whistles, and the awning gives the cottage that "wow" factor I had imagined. After several days of rain, thunder, and lightning, the installers were finally able to get the mammoth piece installed, and I can honestly say that I love it.

Also installed yesterday were the French Quarter gas lantern by Bevolo. Though it is not functional yet (the plumber needs to do his thing) at least the lantern is in its proper place. The shutters as well as glass door were installed too. I'll show you more in a future post.

For now, let's take in the beauty of the copper awning.

Opinion Requested {Bevolo Gas Lanterns}

I shared with you our shopping excursion to Bevolo in the French Quarter to select a gas lantern for the front post of the Acorn Cottage. Today, I received two choices from the designer who helped us narrow our many ideas. Both are the French Quarter lanterns 18" that we love. The differences lie in the bracket choices.

I am requesting your help. The rendering of the house is below. The lantern will go on the outside of the front porch post closest to the front door. It will be very visible from the road.

Our intent is to create some Southern charm and a gas light is a great place to begin.

Option A: 18" French Quarter Gooseneck bracket

Shopping for Acorn Cottage {Bevolo}

On Saturday, J and I also shopped at Bevolo in the French Quarter. 

Adding Southern charm to the new house begins with the addition of a gas lantern, so we stopped into the Bevolo showroom on Royal Street. There are so many lovely lanterns to choose from, and the salesperson {Sarah} could not have been more knowledgeable and helpful.

We favor the French Quarter model and are not certain just yet about the size. I sent Sarah the measurements and rendering, so she will be able to help us choose the right size for the front of our new home.

While there, we also selected a new mailbox for the front of the house. It is a copper stunner!

I am having so much fun choosing new items for the house. It will be exciting to see the progress.

Bevolo-style Gas Lanterns

Oh! How I wish we had gas lanterns on our porch on Perrier Street! They scream Southern to me. But, I guess I do have the next best thing, Bevolo-styled gas lanterns by the uber-talented Cynthia Kolls.

I purchased these two at Bevolo on Royal Street two years ago. I love to use them between seasons. They always seem to bring us the biggest compliments.
