October at Acorn Cottage: A Spooktacular Welcome

 October has arrived, and with it comes the magic of Halloween across New Orleans. From porch to parlor, the city is alive with festive displays—and of course, Acorn Cottage is no exception. I adore decorating seasonally, and Halloween offers the perfect chance to bring a bit of whimsy, mystery, and spooktacular charm to our home.

The front facade is dressed in full Halloween spirit: pumpkins, bats, and mummies create a festive first impression. Our porch greets guests with a hand-painted door hanger from Southern Antiques of Laurel, MS—a charming touch that sets the tone. Felt bats seem to take flight across the front of the house, while a dramatic black maple leaf tree makes a statement from its olive jar planter.

Standing guard in the windows are two towering five-foot mummies, keeping watch as curious neighbors pass by. Flanking the cottage, two cast-iron urns overflow with pumpkin topiaries, each stacked in place with nothing more than gravity. Along the walkway, boxwoods wear cheerful pumpkin accents, while a row of watchful crows perch atop the fence. A few playful metal ghosts round out the display, bringing just the right amount of spooky flair.

It’s always a joy to transform Acorn Cottage with the seasons, and Halloween décor has a way of making everything feel both festive and enchanting. I can’t wait to share the nighttime glow—the flicker of candles, the soft illumination of pumpkins, and the magic that only October evenings can bring.

Stay tuned—Acorn Cottage after dark is sure to be a Halloween treat!

SPOOKtacular October {Terror Swift - The scERAS Tour}

 Guess who comes to town tomorrow?

Unless you've been living under a rock, it's none other than Miss Taylor Swift herself. The city of New Orleans is going all out for her arrival, and this excitement includes the owners of our favorite "Skeleton House" on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and State Streets. If you've been following Uptown Acorn, I enjoy sharing teh "punny" skeletons every Halloween season.

This year, her tribe of skeletons include Taylor Swift dressed to the nines from her ERAS. What creativity was involved in this display!

There is even a Skelce skeleton to represent her favorite tight end.

Taylor Swift will be in town for 3 sold-out nights. Her concert will certainly draw many visitors to the Big Easy. The excitement is all around for sure.

SPOOKtacular October {Acorn Cottage Facade}

 October is one of my favorite months of the year. October brings cooler temperatures, Fall Break (a week of no school), and Halloween. The Halloween season is celebrated hugely in the city of New Orleans.

Today, I'd like to share the Acorn Cottage dressed in her Halloween glory. The front yard features pumpkins stacked as topiaries in garden pots. Felt bats fly away along the front of the house.

On the door, an orange and black chinoserie pumpkin welcomes guests and adds the perfect touch to the Halloween decor. More bats and a life-sized mummy guard us during the month of October.

Black feathery wreaths hang in teh windows, metal ghosts line the walkway, and crows perch along the fence.

Thanks for stopping by.

You should see the glow at night. Stay tuned!
