Jazz Festin' {@ home}

 Though I did not do Jazz Fest this weekend, I did add the saxophone doorhanger to the front door. The doorhanger was acquired years ago from Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door. I also added the custom Acorn Cottage Jazz Fest-inspired sign by Jazz Fest artist, Nan Parati. The addition of gingham ribbons gives it all a fun and festive finishing touch.

School Daze

 And so it happens...

I return to school tomorrow after a summer off. It never gets any easier. I had a great summer and am fortunate to be able to spend it any way I want to do so. On the front door, I placed a yellow school bus-inspired streetcar by local artist Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door. It is probably my least favorite (for good reasons). 

I cannot wait to see my kiddos on Wednesday (masks and all).

School Daze

It is hard to believe that the summer of 2017 is just about over. I report to school for teacher meetings  boredom on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The kiddos return on Thursday.

The school daze streetcar by New Orleans artist Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door went up on each front door on August 1.

Giving Thanks for ... {Acorn Door Decor}

Every year I enjoy hanging the large acorn door pieces by New Orleans artist Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door. I guess the Uptown Acorn has an affinity for acorns. And yes, I do.

The French symbol for prosperity, the acorn is also considered to be an emblem of luck, youthfulness and power, the acorn is a good luck symbol. It also represents spiritual growth.

The acorn has always been a favorite symbol of mine especially in decor and accessories. The tiny acorn grows into a majestic oak.

School Daze

I never had a door piece for "Back to School", for I was never really sure that I wanted one. Who wants to be reminded that school is upon us. Right? But I put on my "big boy pants" and called upon Melissa Henry of Show Me The Door to execute my design. I went through darling Kay who sells Melissa's seasonal creations at Judy at the Rink.

The iconic New Orleans streetcar is painted in school bus yellow and features children on their way to school. School-related supplies are painted here and there. I love that Melissa used science-related symbols, equations, and equipment. 

I have to say that the Back to School streetcar does bring a slight smile when I enter my home even if it means going back to the daily grind on Monday.

Work In Progress

I called upon Melissa Henry of Show Me The Door yet again to create "Back to School" streetcars for the front doors. She texted me her progress today. Though I do not like to hear the words, "Back to School", having a fun welcome may make it a little better. I go back on Monday.

Show Me The Door {All That Jazz}

It's festival season here in New Orleans. A couple weeks ago the French Quarter Festival was held in and near the Quarter. It is one of the largest, free festivals in the United States. This week the Jazz & Heritage Festival begins its first of two weekends at the Fairgrounds. Let's hope and pray for continued nice weather.

In anticipation of the festivals, I called upon Melissa Henry of Show Me The Door to design two streetcars with Jazzmen silhouettes. And she certainly delivered.

I adore the fun nature of each and the theme of "All That Jazz". You also have to love the musical note ribbon.

I also added the saxophone (also by Show Me The Door) to the large wreath on the front porch.

Spring Streetcar {Show Me The Door}

Spring has certainly sprung here in south Louisiana. With temperatures in the mid to high 70s, I added the springtime streetcars by Show Me The Door to each front door.

I love the spring blooms in the window box hanging from the streetcar's windows.

All that Jazz.....

It is festival season in New Orleans--- blue skies, windy days, sunshine (and an occasional shower), and lots of humidity. Once Easter comes, I change my door décor to the whimsical wooden saxophones which remain until Jazz Fest is over.

From French Quarter Fest through Jazz Fest, my wooden art makes a great statement.

Melissa Henry of Show Me the Door made these creations a couple years back, and each celebrates what the festival season is all about- good music! I just love how the addition of ribbons move with the wind.
