In the Garden {Caladiums}

 One of my favorite plants in the summer is caladiums. They grow so well in the heat of the New Orleans summer, and the leaves are so big and bright. This year, I planted hundreds of Southern Charm caladium bulbs from my favorite garden center, Perinos. I love the white leaf with the red veining. Here is how they look in the front garden:

This fancy leaved new variety has unusually thick leaves held on sturdy upright petioles.  Southern Charm caladiums tolerate full sun. Well suited for container sizes 4″ and up.  Southern Charm also preforms well in combination pots and patio containers.

In the Garden: Caladiums

It is no secret that I love caladiums planted at this time of year. They are easy to grow by plants and bulbs. I planted the White Christmas variety throughout the front and back yards. I also added the White Queens in the rear garden.

Take a look:

Acorn Cottage {Backyard: Spring}

It has been a while since I've shared the backyard of the Acorn Cottage. This post will be somewhat photo heavy, so grab your java and peruse on.

There is no secret that I love green and white in the garden. The rear of the house also features lots of green foliage interspersed with white accents. Since the yard is quite shady, I have used lots of different textured ferns to give interest. As you are aware, our front yard was professionally landscaped in a more formal way. In the backyard, I used many existing plants in a natural way. For spring I added the row of white (White Christmas) caladiums. There are also my favorite boxwoods which edge the garden and add some formality to the beds.

New furniture mixed with old makes the yard appear to have grown naturally over time. Remember, we have lived here since September 2018.

Come to the back and relax. Sit a spell! Sip a cocktail!

Here's how the yard looked when we purchased the home in May:

Spring Blooms {Begonias and Caladiums}

I just love springtime temperatures and blooms. Our garden was recently planted with begonias (Wax white) and caladiums in white. The caladiums are the white Christmas variety.

In a few days, mulch will be added to the beds, and this will serve us well until fall.

What do you plant in your gardens for the spring?
