Mardi Gras Mambo {Acorn Cottage: King Zulu Cocktail}

No parades? No problem! J and I celebrated what would have been the first weekend of Uptown parades with a blast from the past, the King Zulu cocktail.

Double old-fashioned House Float glasses: Mignon Faget

Mardi Gras placemats: Hazelnut New Orleans

The King Zulu cocktail first appeared on the blog on February 5, 2012. It is yummy and delicious.

      After spotting a cocktail recipe using King Cake vodka on BFF NJS's facebook page, I hurried to my local Rouse's to purchase all ingredients.

Thanks BFF LK for the professional pic

     For the very first time, King Cake vodka is made by Lucky Player Brands. It "captures the excitement and love of Mardi Gras. Bottled in France it features the creative artwork of Andrea Mistretta." The bottle makes it a true New Orleans Spirit. Just opening the bottle made me eager for an awesome cocktail. The smell definitely captures the true king cake aroma---vanilla cake with an almondy icing.

Make mine a {Smokin' Oldy Old Fashioned}

If you've been reading The Uptown Acorn, you know my cocktail of choice is always a Ketel One martini with a couple olives, so when we visited the 1847 bar at the Grand Hotel recently this cocktail spoke to me, a Smokin' Oldy Old Fashioned. The craft cocktail was absolutely perfect in every way. J and I craved the cocktail the next night too. Cheers!

The Smokin' Oldy old fashioned is a perfect cocktail for the Fall season and beyond. The choices of old fashioned cocktails is also impressive. Just read the descriptions... mouth watering!

From the Grand Hotel website:
Every great hotel has a great bar to steal away to, and 1847 is ours.  1847 is home to the beverage arts, with Grand Garden-to-glass crafted cocktails, local libations and signature wines by the glass all getting in on the act. The setting of choice for savoring house-made elixirs, quiet conversation, or the easy company of new friends.

Smokin' Oldy, y'all!

Flashback Friday - Laissez les bon temps rouler {King Zulu Cocktail}

The original post was from February of 2012, my second month of blogging. J & I have made this yummy cocktail every year since. Try it! It is delicious! I love to share this recipe every single Mardi Gras season.

#tbt {Key Lime Pie Martini}

#tbt
This post first appeared on Uptown Acorn in June 2012. Sip responsibly!

I am sharing my newest, favorite beachy libation with you today. It is the perfect balcony cocktail and perfect for ending a great day from the beach.

Norma Jean, this is a cocktail for you!
4 jiggers (1 1/2 oz. jigger) of each of the following:
  • Smirnoff vanilla vodka
  • Rose’s Sweet Lime Juice
  • Half & half
  • Simple syrup
Pour all in blender. Fill with ice. Blend.

4

Delicious!
It would also be fun to garnish with graham cracker crumbs or brown sugar.

Thanks BFF Kristen for the cocktail idea.

Cheers, y’all!
