Halloween 2022 {Acorn Cottage Facade}

 Halloween decorating is pretty popular in these parts, and I love to contibute to the seasonal decor on Jena Street. The house is all decked out in the colors of the season- black and orange. This year, I added felt bats from Grandin Road, one of my favorite go-tos for Halloween decor. I alaso added several galvanized ghosts that I picked up from Phina, a local home sccessories shop. Combined with my other Halloween decor, the spooktacular front yard is quite a treat. Stacked pumpkins were picked up from my favorite garden center, Perino's Nursery.

In the Garden {Update: Sunpatiens}

 If you follow me on instagram, you have already seen the sunpatiens in June. They appear to be on serious steroids as they keep growing taller and taller and taller. They are flourishing due to the excessive rain we have had over the past few months.

 The sunpatiens in the front garden are poppin'. I have always loved a white and green garden, and I am happy to finally have one of my own.

It's Christmas Time {Acorn Cottage: Facade}

 Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, it is time to share Christmas from the Acorn Cottage. I am not one of those bloggers who decorate early just to fill my feed with Christmas photos for blog hops, etc. I actually do not like blog hops. My photos are in real time.

Today, I'd like to share the Christmas facade of the Acorn Cottage. I used d. stevens plaid ribbons with fresh greens as delivered by Mitch's Flowers. Red poinsettias from Perino's Garden Center also add to the spirited decor.

This year, I moved the toy soldiers in front of the windows under the copper awning. I also added plaid ribbons as scarves.

It is supposed to get really cold tomorrow. I am so very ready for cooler, more seasonal weather.

I'll share more of the porch when the sun comes out again.

SPOOKTACULAR October {Pumpkins...}

 J and I finally picked up the last of our pumpkins from Hazel's Market in Daphne, AL. There are so many different varieties of pumpkins to choose from, and I love to add them to the Halloween/Fall decor. I added the newest gourds to the existing ones J and I purchased at Perino's in Metairie a couple weeks back. The pumpkins will last throughout the season until Thanksgiving.

Acorn Cottage {Spring Plantings}

Last weekend was a weekend in the yard. Fresh air, exercise, and sunshine is just what the doctor ordered. Out went the "old" and in went the new. In the front yard garden, I added ferns, sun impatiens, and my favorite White Christmas caladiums and bulbs.
The new plantings in colors of green and white sure do brighten my outlook of things lately. Thanks to Perino's Nursery for their assistance.

I also love this message chalked on the sidewalk in front of the Acorn Cottage by a neighboring kid.

Acorn Cottage {Devon Planter}

It was a beautiful weekend. J & I recently purchased the Devon rectangular planter from Grandin Road, and this weekend it was filled with plants from my favorite Perino's Garden Center. The Devon planter is substantial in size and fits perfectly in the niche created by the front porch window.

I filled the planter with boxwoods, ferns, variegated ivy and white petunias. The petunias will take us through the spring and summer seasons. I plan on adding white caladiums soon.

I heart {Olive Jars}

I shared the olive jar that J and I purchased from DOP Antiques when we were remodeling the Acorn Cottage. The olive jar looks quite stately placed on the front porch topped with a simple boxwood orb. Recently, we purchased a similar jar for the front garden at Perino's Nursery. This jar will look great with seasonal blooms. At Mardi Gras, I filled the jar with purple petunias.

French olive jars originated from Biot, France -A small potting village in the south of France – “Jarres de Biot” are made from hand, without mold or wheel.  The jars are made from grey clay from Vaugrenier and red clay from Clausonnes – a mix of the two clays achieve the perfect desired color.  After the mixing of the clays, the round bottom is laid out then circled ropes of clay are stacked on top – sized to give the form of the jarre.  When the form is complete the clay is smoothed inside and out by hand, then dried before the kiln and varnish.  Once completed the olive jars were used to store flour, other food items and last but not least they were used to store olives – typically in brine and oils.

November Plantings {Pansies & Snapdragons}

With the days and nights getting cooler here in south Louisiana, I replaced my front plantings with white pansies and snapdragons, two plants that are perfect for the cooler months. I love white blooms because they look great in both day and night and never clash with my seasonal decor.
