The Year of the BIG 5-0 {#thereal50}

2018 is the year that J and I and all my high school classmates turn the big 5-0. It seems like yesterday I was living in Atlanta turning 4-0. Wow! Where has time gone?

Of course, 2018 will be a year for travels. J & I will finally get "hitched" as it is our 20th anniversary year. I'd like to get healthier - eat better and move more! Your tips are appreciated.

I can remember back when my mom and dad turned 50. They seemed so old. As I am on the horizon of 50, it just does not seem so old. Yes, I have put on some lbs. during the past 10 years, but I am happy. I am secure. I am motivated. The older I get, the wiser I have become. I don't sweat the small stuff, and I certainly do not care what others think (I never have!).

50 is just a number. We will hit it, enjoy it, and savor every single moment.

J turns 50 on February 25, and I will on March 9. Stay tuned for our plans during this exciting 50th year.

Send me your tips for aging well. I'd love to hear them from you.

  1. I’ll take 50 again! I hit 60 last March. I remember thinking that people at 50 and beyond were so old too but when you finally get there somehow it doesn’t feel that way anymore! As they say- it’s all what you make it- so make it good!! Cheers to 2018- it looks like a big one all the way around for you and J!

  2. 50 is the best time of your life! Young enough to really enjoy things but old enough to not care what others think. So excited to celebrate 50 with both of you!

  3. I get to celebrate the big 50 with the best apparently ;-) July 18. I am actually looking forward to it. I can honestly say I feel the best I have in years, probably since I turned the dreaded 40!! I know who my true friends are, I know what I like and don't like, and am more secure in myself and my decisions. I've learned I am happier being the authentic me. If that means losing some friendships over it, then they truly weren't my friends to begin with. And I am so over keeping up with Joneses, Pinterest, and even some blogs. I am at a place in my life where I know that what is posted is just a snippet of their "reality"...the things they want to be seen. My younger self would be envious, even jealous. My almost 50 something self gives herself some grace.
    Love ya! Here's to 50 and fabulous my friend.

  4. It is just a number. This is my final year in the 50's. I will be turning 60 this April. I loved the 50's. This was the best years for me. You are full of life Ron so I know you will embrace turning 50 with ease and grace. Ahhhh I am so excited you and J will be officially getting married. How exciting is that! Here's to a new year with lots of big changes in your life that I know will be wonderful times.
    Congrats.
    xoxo

  5. You're just a kid. Keep doing what you are doing. I am going to be 65 this month and I am more active now than ever. Keep moving both mentally and physically and don't let the number get you down.

  6. Good morning, Ron! I'm with the others--50 is just a number--it's the new 30! When I turned 50, it didn't even phase me. Turned 60 in 2017, and even though I was dreading it, it turned out pretty okay! Here's my tip--embrace the beginning of your 50's, take small steps in getting healthy, and just savor the fact that you and J will get hitched! I'm sure the both of you have already started planning the event or probably have already finalized them! Carpe Diem! Cheers! xoxo

  7. Well -- happy birthday to you both! My son turns 50 today in China, but it really is tomorrow (the 5th) since he was born here in the states. I have NEVER cared what anyone else thinks, which is perhaps something we have in common. It's great that you and J are getting "hitched," and I highly recommend the state of matrimony. 50 is very different now, much younger than it used to seem. I, too, thought my parents had one foot in the grave when they hit it. Now I think it would be pretty great to be 50 again!
