Christmas 2022 {Acorn Cottage: Dining Room}

 The dining room has been decorated with care in hopes that St. Nicholas will soon be here. The dining space is again decorated traditionally in the colors red, green, and gold. I adore the red ball garlands used atop the chandelier and metal wave mirrors. Two velvet dressed Santas (purchased from Hazelnut) sit on the shelves below each mirror.

I also love the use of the tinsel tree which holds all of my bar-themed ornaments. The tree is a Dunn & Sonnier find. Shop local, friends!!!

It's Fall Y'all {Thanksgiving: Acorns and Oak Leaves Ribbon}

 I'm certainly glad that I remembered to use my newest Fall ribbon. I purchased the ribbon on sale from a Magazine Street fave, Dunn & Sonnier in the Spring. When things are not packed away together seasonally, I often forget the purchases I make off-season throughout the year. The ribbon is by my favorite ribbon designer, d. stevens and features embroidered acorns and oak leaves. It is pretty perfect for the Acorn Cottage, ain't it?

Looking like Spring on the Mantle

There's always a lull after the Mardi Gras decorations are put away. So with guests coming to town and temperatures in the 80s, I decided to add a couple vases with bunches of tulips from Dunn & Sonnier. 

Each vase features a gold leaf stripe affixed with an agate. The brass bunny and fox from Timothy DeClue Collection are fun to use. Two New Orleans door trays exclusive to Hazelnut make a nice backdrop, and a Baobab Pearl candle from Sotre sets the sense of smell.

Laissez les bon temps rouler {Parlor}

The parlor is all decorated and ready for guests during this Mardi Gras season. Come on in...

The mantle features my favorite sculpted king, dukes, and revelers by a local artist from Judy at the Rink. They are one of a kind and perfect for the season. 

The large reverse decoupage plate is exclusive to Hazelnut. It is a great addition to any Mardi Gras decor. The ribbon hanging from the mantle is by d. stevens purchased last year at Dunn & Sonnier.

Hermes, the bust, is also ready for the Mardi Gras season too.

The newest addition to my Mardi Gras decor is an illustration by New Orleans artist, Maggie Covert LeBlanc of WalkingMan Studios. I absolutely love the spirit of the piece.

Acorn Bowl {Vagabond House}

The acorn, the French symbol of prosperity, is a favorite symbol of mine; hence, Uptown Acorn is the name of this blog. 

I was given this acorn covered bowl by Vagabond House at Christmas, and I adore it. It was purchased from Dunn & Sonnier on Magazine Street.
From Vagabond House: We love it when our customer's go a little nutty for this elegant and beautiful bowl, cast in pure Vagabond House Pewter in the shape of a noble acorn. A highly polished pewter base forms the bowl and is topped by a detailed cast, hand-finished lid.

I added this pewter acorn to a stack of books on the stair parlor table. I love its details especially the oak leaves.

Mardi Gras {Parlor Mantle}

It is hard to believe that today is the last day of January. Where, oh where did January go?

Today, I'd like to share the parlor mantle with you.

The mantle in the parlor is always fun to decorate seasonally, and Mardi Gras is no exception. I adore the crown ribbon and bunting from Dunn and Sonnier that I used on the lower mantle. 

A large reversed decoupaged plate exclusive to Hazelnut on Magazine is an elegant backdrop to the Mardi Gras collectibles.

Anne Lee Sarpy papier mache' figures are a fun touch. These figures are available through Judy at the Rink. I have collected the Zulu warrior (love that he stands in the iconic coconut), the king, and the reveler.

The vintage trophy cups hold preserved boxwood spheres topped with metal crowns.

I really like to use the mantle as a focal point seasonally. It does make an exceptional statement during the Mardi Gras season.
