Throw Me Somethin' {Mardi Gras: Dining Room}

Of course, the dining room also features touches of the Carnival season. On the table is an wonderful crown vase filled with beads surrounded by a papier mache' king cake custom made by local artist Gwen Markovich of Dats Awtsy.

I placed another papier mache' oval king cake on the buffet topped with an oyster bowl filled with various beads in purple, green, and gold.

My collection of Lorraine Gendron wooden figures is on the drop leaf table. I adore her creations and have collected these for years since moving back to NOLA.

More beads are located on the shelves.

Throw Me Somethin' {Mardi Gras: Living Room}

Come on in and let the good times roll. After all, it is the Mardi Gras season. The living room holds some of my favorite papier-mache' collectibles purchased through Judy at the Rink. These sculptures are perfect for the Mardi Gras season.

It would also not be Mardi Gras without a jester or two. I placed the large jester atop the secretary this season.

Small porcelain boxes of a float, king cake, and crown are fun accessories and have made great gifts.

#tbt {On Parade with Lorraine Gendron Collectibles}

Let's revisit an earlier post from January 2012 #tbt.
A number of you asked and commented about the whimsical wooden cutouts in my Mardi Gras Home Tour post earlier this week. So here it goes...

     Upon moving back to Louisiana in the summer of 2008, I fell in love with the unique wooden creations at one of my favorite Magazine Street shoppes (and yes, I spend a lot of time on Magazine Street---miles of fun).
     Lorraine Gendron, a Louisiana Folk Artist from Hahnville, has created these wonderful, whimsically painted wooden cutouts representing New Orleans iconic images. Her work is treasured by collectors around the globe.
     After receiving my first Lorraine Gendron original from J for Christmas of 2008, I was hooked. Since then, I have received more as gifts and purchased a few of my own. Thanks, Honey! My first one was the Rex float which is part of the Floats Collection.

I look forward to the Mardi Gras season each year to display these fun wooden creations with my Mardi Gras decor. Though I put them out only for the Mardi Gras season, they make a great addition to any and all decor all year long.

Mardi Gras {Parlor Mantle}

It is hard to believe that today is the last day of January. Where, oh where did January go?

Today, I'd like to share the parlor mantle with you.

The mantle in the parlor is always fun to decorate seasonally, and Mardi Gras is no exception. I adore the crown ribbon and bunting from Dunn and Sonnier that I used on the lower mantle.

A large reversed decoupaged plate exclusive to Hazelnut on Magazine is an elegant backdrop to the Mardi Gras collectibles.

Anne Lee Sarpy papier mache' figures are a fun touch. These figures are available through Judy at the Rink. I have collected the Zulu warrior (love that he stands in the iconic coconut), the king, and the reveler.
