December at Acorn Cottage: The Sunroom

 The sunroom is truly the heart of our home during the Christmas season. It’s the room where we spend the most time—where conversations linger, cocktails are poured, and holiday cheer seems to come naturally. With sunlight streaming in during the day and the glow of twinkling lights at night, it becomes the perfect backdrop for Christmas gatherings both big and small.

The Christmas tree in the sunroom is one of my favorites to decorate. It’s filled with an array of shiny ornaments that J and I have collected over the years on our travels, mixed with vintage-style pieces that add character and charm. Each ornament tells a story, making the tree feel personal and layered. I’ve always loved finishing my trees with a finial at the top—it adds height, elegance, and that classic touch I’m always drawn to.

One of my most treasured pieces in the room is the vintage ball wreath, which I purchased several years ago from my favorite Atlanta shop, Boxwoods. It’s a piece I bring out year after year, and it never fails to make a statement. The coordinating ball tree, displayed atop a ginger jar urn, is a perfect nod to the timeless Christmas decor I adore—traditional, refined, and never overdone.

The bookcase in the sunroom is filled with some of my favorite collections. Belsnickle Santas sit alongside deer collectibles, creating a cozy woodland feel, while family photos add warmth and meaning to the display. These shelves tell our story and make the space feel especially inviting during the holidays.

Even the bar cart gets dressed for the season, filled with festive glassware and Christmas goods, ready for impromptu gatherings and evening toasts. The sunroom is where memories are made, where laughter is shared, and where the spirit of the season truly comes alive. It’s a space that reflects not only my love of classic Christmas decor, but also the joy of being together during the most wonderful time of the year.

Mardi Gras 2024 {Acorn Cottage: Sunroom}

 Since the "sunroom" is in the front of Acorn Cottage, J and I spend lots of time in here with guests sharing conversation and cocktails. I bet we spend the most time in the sunroom during the weeks that lead up to Mardi Gras day. The view from the room affords us the opportunity to observe parade revelers and guests as they traverse to and from Napoleon Avenue which is only one block away.

Jesters, pillows, wreaths, and crowns all help to spread the Carnival spirit. Oh! And do not forget the irises......

Halloween {In the Sunroom}

 Most of the interior Halloween decorations are found in the sunroom. Esmerelda the witch, glittered hands, ceramic pumpkins, and Halloween-inspired bar accessories fill the furniture pieces and built-in shelving.

Halloween is almost here! Are you ready? It is supposed to be much cooler here tomorrow. I can only hope.

Halloween/Fall {Pretty Chinoserie Pumpkins}

 When I spotted this handpainted chinoserie tin pumpkins I knew they would be added to the sunroom. The green color and the detailed leaf and bird motifs coordinate so well in the sunroom. Green is my most favorite hue, so the addition of the seasonal pumpkins makes for a great display. The pumpkins even blend well with the leaf and bird motif of the room's custom drapes and pillows.

The pretty pumpkins were purchased from a new well-appointed shop on Magazine Street, Pique' by PK (Parker Kennedy).

I will most likely add the pumpkins to the sunroom shelves because I love them so much.

Mardi Gras: Acorn Cottage {Sunroom}

 Mardi Gras decor "plays well" with the colors in the sunroom. There is an abundance of green shades as well as golds used throughout the room. Green is my most favorite color, and I enjoy many shades of it.

In the sunroom, the round table in the window features a vase filled with plumes in purple, green, and gold. Who needs florals when feathers will do just right? On the table, porcelain boxes in shapes of a crown, king cake, and king's float add to the spirit of the season.

A collection of parade doubloons sits in one of my favorite tortoise shell-inspired bowls.

Another jester sits atop the vintage green scale on a dropleaf table. Another Baobab candle in green (from Sotre) surrounded by a crown sits in the other pan.

Various touches add just the right amount of Mardi Gras charm.

Merry, Merry! {Acorn Cottage: Sunroom}

 One of my favorite rooms in our home is the sunroom. Located in the front of the house, the sunroom is where we usually hang out with guests to sip cocktails. I adore this room at Christmas time. Upon J's suggestion, the live frasier fir tree is filled with vintage C7 ceramic colored lights. The vintage nature of the tree is carried throughout the room. The vintage ornament wreath and newly acquired vintage ornament tree (by from Boxwoods, Atlanta) add to the collected look of which I am a huge fan.

Enjoy the sunroom in her Christmas splendor.
