The Acorn Cottage {Siding Down}

More progress... Today, the beautiful blue siding started to come down. We were pleasantly surprised to discover the wood that was covered many, many years is in good condition and will not need to be replaced. Of course, it will be painted. Stay tuned.

I understand the use of siding for upkeep purposes, but vinyl siding looks like a trailer to me.

The Acorn Cottage {Lavatory with Console}

From the minute I saw this at our local Ferguson Bath Showroom, I knew I wanted it in my bathroom. The brass legs and the brass faucets are classic and simply amazing.

The Oak Hill 30" lavatory with console is a stunner.

The Acorn Cottage {Bathroom Demolition}

I love seeing progress. The demolition of the bathrooms began bright and early this morning.

I also met with our electrician who removed current light fixtures in preparation for the addition of more fixtures and outlets.

The Acorn Cottage {Bathrooms Reno}

One last look at these bathrooms because the demolition of them begins tomorrow. Do you think an update is needed?

This photo best sums up the look I want in each - white subway tile, black and white flooring, black accents. I adore this fresh, clean look.

And the front (decorative and privacy) fence is complete.

The Acorn Cottage {Decorative Fence}

When the shrubs and trees were removed from the front yard, the lack of privacy it created resulted in the addition of a decorative privacy fence. The fence serves two purposes - privacy and a place to grow jasmine (decorative). The fence will be painted the same color as the outside of the home, swiss coffee (Benjamin Moore).

When the fence is complete, I want it to look just like this fence I snapped while out on my daily walk. I love the trellised jasmine.

Must See TV {Safe}

Death. Secrets. Abduction. Secrets. Runaway. Secrets. Murder. Secrets. Fire. Secrets. Suspense.....

If you are looking for a great show to binge on, the Safe on Netflix is your choice. J and I watched all 8 episodes last weekend. We just could not stop watching.

Widowed surgeon Tom has struggled to raise his two daughters alone following his wife's death a year ago. Things seem to be on the right track for the family, who live in a gated community, because they have close friends nearby and Tom is in the early stages of a new relationship. But the situation takes a turn for the worse when Jenny, Tom's oldest daughter, goes missing along with her boyfriend. Tom enlists girlfriend Sophie, a police detective, to help locate the teens, but her new partner is working her own agenda. As the investigation intensifies, Tom unearths dark secrets about the people closest to him in his affluent neighborhood. The drama series was created by mystery novelist Harlan Coben.

The Acorn Cottage {Sun room Fabric}

With the help of Patricia from Fairfax Fabrics on Magazine Street, I think that J and I have finally settled upon the fabric for the drapes in the sun room.  The colors -green, blue, corals - will look great with the planned art work and furnishings for the room. The wallpaper will be a neutral grasscloth, the sofa is an off white herringbone print, and accents will be in greens and blues. There will be a natural fiber area rug covering the brick floor.

Choosing fabrics is fun, but there are way too many to sort and look through. I make decisions pretty easily but finding the perfect fabric is always a difficult one. I am happy with this decision. Check!

Here is the sun room:

Eating New Orleans {Auction House Market}

Trying new places to eat is always fun in New Orleans. There are always so many new restaurants opening on a weekly basis. Opened earlier this year, J and I finally were able to try the offerings at Auction House Market.

The Market's lower level features a sleekly-designed, multi-vendor food hall with ten chef-driven concepts. Sip on coffee or a cocktail, and enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I dined on the choice of two empanadas (chirizo Mexicana and mushroom/cheese) from Empanola. Both were delicious. It was accompanied by a side salad of mixed greens, craisins, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, and green goddess dressing. The meal was presented on a wooden board. I appreciate the presentation.
J dined on a crab salad and seafood gumbo from Elysian Seafood.

The space is airy, open and well-appointed. Vendors include: Aloha Lei, Alpha, Coast Roast, Elysian Seafood, Empanola, Happy Jaxx, Mac & Moon, Sola Deli, Tava, The Mayhaw.

Auction House Market is located at 801 Magazine Street across the street from Peche in the CBD (Central Business District).

The Acorn Cottage {Backyard}

You asked for it. I delivered. Here is the backyard of the Acorn Cottage. It is really a blank slate, a patio with furniture surrounded by trees and leaves as well as an 8 ft. fence.

I envision a pool with an arbor. I can see it. Time will tell.....

The Acorn Cottage {The House is Empty}

I thought the previous owner would never leave, but yes, he's finally moved out. The previous owner has lived in the cottage for over 40 years. I am certain that he has lots of memories in the charming home. J and I closed on the house on May 11 and allowed the previous owner to stay in the home until June 11. Ain't we nice?

This is how the house looked on the morning of June 12. It is a blank slate. Let the renovations begin.
