Acorn Cottage {Front Garden: before & after}

I hope that you like a good before and after.

J and I purchased the house on Jena Street in May 2018, and a lot of work went into making the house our home, one that we could be happy to own. One of the first areas to receive attention was the front garden. When the home was purchased the yard was very overgrown. It was so overgrown that we did not ever notice the home before, and we only lived 7 houses away for 10 years. 

I'd like to share the before and after of the front garden and facade.

J and I called upon our lawn maintenance expert, Jorge Caballero, 

to remove everything from the yard and then called upon Chase Williams of Chase's Landscape Services for the planning and installation of the new garden.

The Acorn Cottage {Before and After: Dining Room}

The dining room is adjacent to the den. Of course, the colors of the den and dining area are very similar with whites, navys, and greens.

We decided after we moved in to use a 48' round table which seats 6 adults very comfortable. Four chairs remain around the table for daily use, but others can be pulled up to the table easily. The table we chose for this area is the Miles Redd Round Dining Table for Ballard Designs.
Designer Miles Redd was inspired by a table once owned by 20th century style maker, Babe Paley. "I love pedestal dining tables because you can get so many chairs around them and never have an awkward leg get in the way," Miles explains. The gleaming ebony top with brass banding appears to float on slender, bamboo-style tripod legs accented in brass twine.

The chandelier is new and from Niche Modern Home in Mandeville. The gold tones of the chandelier coordinate well with the brass of the new table. The other furniture and accessories in the room came with us from the Perrier house.

The Acorn Cottage {Before and After: Den}

The den has come a long way. The biggest change in this room is the use of Benjamin Moore's White Dove paint on the walls and ceiling. This really helped to open up the space. The addition of new built-ins, furniture, and accessories helps to make the den a comfortable, homey space.

The den is the room where we watch TV and relax the most. It is a perfectly comfortable space.

The Acorn Cottage {Den Shelving: Complete}

What was once an outdoor grill and then a mammoth, piece-mealed entertainment center is now a glorious built-in of custom shelving and drawers all painted in my favorite Benjamin Moore's White Dove.

Den Shelving, y'all!

The Acorn Cottage {Before and After: Kitchen}

The kitchen is a small room but received lots of TLC during the remodel. The appliances, backsplash, and countertops were changed, added, or replaced. The cabinets were in good condition, so we decided to keep them and had them repainted in glossy BM Chelsea Gray.

The addition of updated accessories and linens helps to bring the kitchen into the 21st century.

I also love the character of the built-in hutch just outside the kitchen. It is perfect for glassware and storage of dishes and other important entertaining staples.

The Acorn Cottage {Before and After: Guest Bedroom}

We also went light and bright in the guest bedroom, selecting the Pottery Barn Morgan bedding in white and green (my favorite color).

We used the antique full bed that was in the Nest on Perrier Street. Brass sconces are perfect as bedside lamps. I do have a love for sconces.

A vintage dresser is perfect for storage.

I'd also like Roman shades in this room, so I'll add this to my list of wants.
