Two Thumbs Up {Emoji: Classroom Theme}

 As many of you know, I am in my eleventh year teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science at an ISAS school in Lakeview, New Orleans (It is actually my 31st year in education.) Each year I come up with a different theme. This school year the theme is inspired by the HAPPY emojis and is incorporated in many of my boards and displays. "Thumbs Up", "Be Cool", and "Do Science" are the phrases I've used to carry the emoji theme. The star of the show is the mascot designed especially for me featuring an emoji donning goggles and a bubbling test tube.

Here is how the emojis are used throughout my classroom, in the hallway, and beyond:

A Spooktacular Halloween {The Classroom}

I'm taking a little break from sharing on Perrier to show you how I celebrate October at school.

Keeping with the periodic table theme, I had my favorite etsy designers, Off the Wall Expressions, design a couple BOO signs.

In the science lab window, I placed one of the BOO signs on a bulletin board surrounded by unique ghosts created by the 7th grade students. Each ghost depicts each student and is filled with their interests.

Surrounding the board are laminated photos of each 7th grader holding the BOO sign. Students don fun hats and masks as well as orange twinkle lights. Students and parents love photos and artwork.

Hats on skulls and skeletons and lights complete my classroom Halloween decor.

MAGNOLIA Classroom Makeover

All I can say is that Ms. Nixon, a sixth grade math teacher, is one lucky educator. The team from Fixer Upper with Chip & Joanna recently partnered with a local magazine in Waco, TX to redo a local classroom. Ms. Nixon was selected.

Can you imagine having your classroom overhauled by this team? I would love it so much to have the input and resources of such a great and capable team. The room has me at shiplap, of course.

I hope Ms. Nixon and her 6th graders appreciate and enjoy this classroom all year long.

The Periodic Table {Classroom Theme 2016}

Each year before the previous year ends, I search pinterest for ideas for a classroom theme for the following school year as it allows me the summer to acquire many new items for the "theme." This year's theme centers around the periodic table. Did you guess that one? As a science education major (chemistry & biology), the periodic table is easily a recognizable chart of any science student and classroom.

I searched etsy by placing "periodic table" in the search box and was elated to find a company called Off the Wall Expressions. This company specializes in decals of various sizes, many using the elements of the periodic table to spell words. Of course, some elements may be fictitious. I shall see who is the first student who notices. The owners of Off the Wall Expressions were so helpful with my many requests. The orders were also timely delivered.

I also searched Cafe Press and Zazzle for even more products. It is amazing what you can find simply by googling "periodic table."

A clock!!!

For the past week, I had the best time creating new bulletin boards and wall art for this school year. I cannot believe that I have never tired of doing so. I have always loved the two weeks prior to school when teachers decorate their rooms.

I also covered the insides of my cabinets with periodic table material from etsy. I love how it hides the multitude of science "junque."

Enjoy the photos.
