So Ready for Fall

 I am so ready for Fall. The cooler temperatures, the vibrant colors, and that unmistakable crispness in the air always bring a fresh burst of energy and inspiration.

This past week, I took a trip to one of my favorite places—Perino’s Garden Center. Wandering through the aisles of plants, I couldn’t resist picking up some rich, Fall-inspired coleus to give my front yard beds a seasonal refresh. Their warm tones and bold patterns instantly transformed the space, adding that cozy feeling I crave this time of year.

To top it off, I added a pumpkin door hanger to my entryway. It’s a small detail, but it signals that Fall is truly on its way. Sometimes, it’s the little touches that set the mood and help us embrace the changing seasons.

Here’s to welcoming Fall—one leaf, one plant, one pumpkin at a time.

Reconnecting After a Busy Spring Semester

 Hello, friends! It's been a while since my last post in January—life has a way of sweeping us up, doesn't it? As a teacher, the spring semester is always a whirlwind of events, trips, and unexpected moments that keep us on our toes. But now, with summer on the horizon, I'm excited to return to a more regular blogging rhythm.

I
hope to use this summer to share more insights, reflections, and perhaps a few stories from the classroom. Thank you for your patience and continued support. Stay tuned for more content coming your way soon!

In the meantime, 5 more school days!

Warmly,

Ron

Cheers to Summer!

It's July!

 I cannot believe it is already July 1st. With the beginning of the new month, changes were made to the front of the Acorn Cottage. A new doorhanger, the American flag, and patriotic buntings signal the Independence Day holiday later in the week.

I hope you are staying cool and hydrated. It has been so hot here with heat indexes in the 3-digits.

Happy July, y'all!

We Remember! {Memorial Day}

 Recently, the white hydrangea doorhanger was changed to the red, white, and blue one from Southern Antiques. I adore the chinoserie urn filled with red blooms. The addition of the American flags makes this piece perfect for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Red, white, and blue buntings from Home Malone were added to the iron fence, and a custom patriotic flag from Tom Tom and Company flows in the breeze.

I am ready for a great holiday weekend. Are you?

Late Spring Porch

 I love springtime and the colors it brings to the neighborhood. I adore the doorhanger that I purchased a couple years ago from Southern Antiques in Laurel, MS. Some of my favorites are from this artist.

White hydrangeas arranged in a blue and white chinoserie footbath make for an excellent springtime welcome. Handpainted, original doorhangers are the best!

The colors compliment the colors in the front garden. Green and white are always right!

Tulip & Hydrangea Doorhanger

 It's definitely spring in New Orleans and that means a new doorhanger. Thanks to my contact at Southern Antiques in Laurel, MS and the local Mississippi artist, the newest spring doorhanger is such a warm, welcoming addition and adds the perfect spring touch to the front porch.

Mardi Gras 2024 {Acorn Cottage: Disco ball Door Hanger}

 I'm excited to share my newest hand-painted doorhanger from Southern Antiques.

The Mardi Gras-inspired disco ball is a perfect welcome for Carnival guests. I adore the textures of this great art piece. The ribbons add to the festive flair.

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas {Santa Doorhanger}

 The week of Thanksgiving is a perfect time to transition from Fall to Christmas decor. I am lovin' my newest Santa doorhanger from my favorite Laurel, Mississippi shop, Southern Antiques. Hand-painted and made of wood, the doorhanger is a vintage welcome for all guests to Acorn Cottage. Topped with a velvet bow, I added the doorhanger to a wreath of pine.

Did you spend last week decorating for Christmas?

Talkin' Turkey

 I love my newest turkey door hanger custom made for Southern Antiques in Laurel, MS. If you have not been to Southern Antiques and are in or near Laurel, you must check out this gem of a shop. The doorhangers are found seasonally and like with any artist I grab them when they are shown on the shop's instagram page. The turkey doorhanger is amazing. I just adore the fall colors of browns, coppers, and turquoise. It makes the perfect November welcome.

It's Fall at the Acorn Cottage

 Last Wednesday, the Halloween decorations were packed up until next year. The pumpkins remained, and the turkey doorhanger was placed on the door. The doorhanger is from Southern Antiques in Laurel, MS. The doorhangers go fast, so when they appear on instagram, you have to act fast. Two gold gilded magnolia wreaths were placed lovingly too.

The new turkey door mat is from Tom Tom and Company. It makes for a great, seasonal welcome.

I love the colors of Fall and am finally happy that the temperatures have also been cooperating (at least for a day or two).

Happy Fall, y'all!
